Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALLAN HUGH FRANCIS January 6, 1932 - May 10, 2014 Surrounded by family, Allan passed away peacefully on May 10, 2014, in his 83rd year. He was born in Winnipeg to Richard Francis and Ethel (nee Gallagher.) He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Helen (nee Gallagher), and his three children, Karen (Peter), Allan (Lenise), and Sandra, and by four grandchildren, Michelle, Julie, David, and Eric. He is also survived by his two sisters, Valerie Campbell and Pat Rieman, and their loving families. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Allan grew up in Spearhill, Manitoba before attending the University of Manitoba, becoming a professional engineer. He worked his entire career for Dominion Bridge Company in Montreal, Regina, Calgary, Amherst, Montreal (again), Winnipeg, Montreal (yet again), and Toronto. He began in the position of design engineer and advanced to the position of President. Throughout his long career, he was highly respected by his colleagues in the industry. He was also a consummate family man who took great joy from spending time relaxing with family at the cottage, or the ski shack, or while exploring the world. His love for sport started with baseball and moved on to curling and golf. He was a long time member of the Markland Wood Golf Club where he and his friends also spent many hours engrossed in bridge, another of his favorite pastimes. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W. (between Islington and Kipling Aves.) on Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. A Celebration of Allan's life will be held in the Chapel on Thursday May 15, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. The family would like to thank the exceptional team at St. Joseph's Health Care Centre for their care and support. If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society. Online condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca

I want to extend my sincere sympathy to the Francis family. I am a daughter-in-law to Vera Simpson, a very close friend to the Francis family. I recall many wonderful times spent with Ethel and hearing news of her family -- Allan, Val and Pat. - Posted by: Clare Simpson (Friend) on: May 17, 2014

Mr. Francis played a large part in my life growing up and I will forever be thankful for having a second father roll model in my life. Losing my father very young, The Francis family often had me at their house, cottage or ski chalet. Even when Karen wasn't around I was invited for dinners in Winnipeg and many times had me to Montreal and Toronto. I am saddened by his passing and my heart goes out to Mrs. Francis, Karen, Allan,Sandra and their families. Pat & Val (and family) - my thoughts are with you as well. Thank you Mr. & Mrs. Francis for always inviting me into your family. I am forever grateful. - Posted by: Laurie Rafter (friend of Karen's) on: May 13, 2014

On behalf of Dolores and myself we wish to offer our deepest sympathy to Helen and the family. I had the pleasure of working for Al for many years at Dominion Bridge in Winnipeg and would have to say that not only was he one of the finest Managers in the company but also one of the finest people I have ever met. We enjoyed many fabulous dinners hosted by Al & Helen and will always remember the good times! - Posted by: Al Bischoff (Domonion Bridge Empolyee) on: May 12, 2014
