BRIAN WILLIAM SCOTT
Born: Jul 24, 1946
Date of Passing: May 11, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBRIAN WILLIAM SCOTT July 24, 1946 - May 11, 2014 It is with great sadness that on May 11, 2014 we said goodbye to our dad, grandpa, brother and friend. After suffering a lengthy illness with COPD we know that you are enjoying "Cruising the Strip" with Mom in heaven. Brain was predeceased by his wife Sheron Scott (nee Zaharia); his parents Jack and Phyllis Scott, and his sister Arlene Laudinsky. Left to mourn his loss are his sons Craig and Blair, daughter-in-law Loray and three grandchildren Brady, Erica and Emily, all whom he loved very much. He also leaves behind family: brother John Scott (Bonnie), sister Lorraine McIntyre (Campbell), and sister Suzanne McIntyre (Ted). Brian grew up in Elmwood and worked for Canadian Safeway for 32 years until he was diagnosed with COPD in 1988. During the mid 1960s he was heavily involved in Bison Dragway, which is now known as Interlake Dragway. He and Sheron would drive to Gimli every weekend where Brian would stage the racers from the start line, feel the rumble of the big block engines and watch them launch off the line as he activated the tree. Sheron, being just as involved in his passion for racing, would record the racer's time from the tower. This love for drag racing continued as he travelled to NHRA races and never missed a scheduled broadcasted race. From 1992 to 2005 Brian spent many wonderful winters in Mesa, Arizona with Sheron by his side. Together they travelled and attended numerous car shows, enjoying the desert sun and making many more wonderful friends. Brian, who was known as "Scotty" in the car community, was a proud member of the Manitoba Mopar Club. In his pristine 67 Plymouth GTX with the 1950s music playing he would head to "Sunday Night Cruise Night" to meet other Mopar members that he considered to be his closest friends. On behalf of the family, we would like to thank Dr. Penner and the compassionate nursing staff at the Victoria Hospital. Brian's service will be held at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. West on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Pallbearers are: Brian McCarthy, Gary Glowa, Dennis Allen, Roger Senabal, Ray Markusa, Pat Kanuiga. Honorary Pallbearer: Jim L'Esperance In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lung Association of Manitoba. Never something you want to hear or read! I just found out about the loss! Growing up in Waverly Heights and being friends with Blair and Craig, I remember jumping on my bike and just going by the house to see what car was on the concrete pad! Seeing the GTX for the first time with 2 4's sticking out of the hood will always be a memory! Always enjoyed going in the basement and seeing all the cool signs! Brian was a good man, father and husband, he will be missed by many! May he rest in peace with his wife by his side! My sincere condolences to Blair, Craig and family! - Posted by: Mike Rodrigues (Friend) on: Oct 12, 2014

I met Brian in 1966 at our local bowling alley (Chateau Lanes). We discovered we both had ordered new muscle cars - Brian a Plymouth GTX and me a Mercury Comet. We spent years deciding who had the fastest car and drag racing at our local dragstrip. Over the years we became great friends traveling and racing our cars. In 2004 we decided to have a dragracing reunion. Gerry Saunders and many other valuable friends came on board to help us with this huge challenge. We managed to raise $12,000 which was donated to the Humane Society and Children's Hospital. Brian and his wonderful wife Sharen were a huge part of this fantastic fundraiser. I thank you Brian for all your support and friendship over more than 50 years. You even thought to include me as a pallbearer at your funeral and to leave me as well as the other pallbearers a nostalgia jacket to wear at the funeral. I also discovered you put your name on the inside of the jacket pocket and an envelope with pictures of all your cars in the pocket. Only you could think of these details. Linda and I will miss you my special friend and may you rest in peace. Jim - Posted by: JIM L'ESPERANCE (FRIEND) on: May 18, 2014

Not being from the Winnipeg area originally, I met Brian through the MMA about 15 years ago and he always had great stories to tell about his days at 'the strip'. We'll all miss your great stories and that wonderful, friendly smile, Brian. Our condolences to Brian's family. We are so sorry for your loss. Brian was a wonderful man. His smile would light up a room. We spent time with Brian and Sheron two wonderful people both had so much love for others. You will truly be missed. Not to see you at car shows will leave a hole at the events. You are all truly in our prayers. The world lost an amazing man. Brian has gone home. His wonderful smile will no longer touch those he loved and cared for. The world is a much sadder place. God bless you Brian. I will cherish the years we were given. Always. - Posted by: Connie Dyer (Close friend) on: May 15, 2014

I have only known Brian for only 6 years through my late boyfriend Jack Sandy. I will remember Brian for his bright smile and entertaining stories of the racing days. Jack and Brian were friends for 55 years and when they got together in later years, the stories they told about their youth, had you laughing about all the adventures they had together. You are reunited with your buddy Jack and I am sure retelling your school antics, working at safeway, racing stories and continuing your battle over "mopar" and "chevy" cars and which were the best. Sincere condolences to Craig, Blair, Loray and all your family - Posted by: Ann Louise Long (friend) on: May 15, 2014

Scotty was a strong influence on the racing community and the business of drag racing in Division 5 for many years. He made tough decisions when they had to be made in the best interests of everyone involved and also had a lot of fun doing his job. He was firm but fair in his dealings at the tracks with racers who sometimes were caught up in the drama of the day and were not easily pleased. He was reliable and always ready to take on the next challenge. Condolences to the family and Rest in Peace Scotty. - Posted by: Allan Tucker (Friend) on: May 15, 2014

You always had another great story about a car or a road trip and told only the way you could. I'm really going to miss those tales. Godspeed my friend. - Posted by: Rick Lumsden (Friend) on: May 15, 2014

I have had the pleasure of knowing "Scotty" for almost 20 years. We met thru the MMA in the early '90's. I had the privilege of riding in in his 1961 Chrysler 300G at the 1998 Mopar Nats. I always enjoyed his stories of the glory days at Keystone and Bison Dragways. He was always friendly, joking and kind-hearted. An important man in the history of Manitoba drag racing and the car hobby. I will miss you Scotty. My condolences to your family. - Posted by: Brad Billson (Mopar club friend) on: May 15, 2014

Spending too much time in the burn-out box would always get you that scowl, but it would always turn to a big broad smile before Scotty would drop the lights on you at the start line at Bison Dragways. Always a respected starter and sportsman until the track closed, it was great to reconnect with him 15 years later in the classic car scene. A car guy through and through and a pleasure to talk with about anything and always willing to help out whenever needed. Brian was just a people person. I'm going to miss that smile and handshake we shared so may times, but thank you for being you. On my guest list of life, you and Sheron will always be VIPs. - Posted by: Larry D'Argis (Friend) on: May 14, 2014

We were friends from the old days. There were many great memories I have of Brian but probably the most outstanding thoughts were his happy smiling face and positive attitude. He never said an unkind word about anyone. He was just a great guy. I know, he will be missed by anyone whose life he touched. - Posted by: Bob Bray (friend) on: May 14, 2014

Sorry to read about your passing. First met Brian in 1963 along with his very good friend Jack Sandy when I worked at Main & Luxton Safeway. Over the years our paths crossed many times. It was hard to read Brian as you didn't know if he was serious or was he trying to pull your leg with his sense of humour. As mentioned, he has a fascination with fast cars and racing. Last time we met was in a grocery store and I learned that he was having problems with his health. He was always outgoing, cheerful and had a lot to say. I admired him for his street smarts. Again, sorry to see losing two early friends so close together from my high school/part-time days. - Posted by: Colin Dederick (Fellow Safeway friend) on: May 14, 2014
