GREGORY JOHN PAUL MOONEY August 23, 1953 - May 12, 2014 It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing our dear brother and uncle, Greg. After a lengthy battle with COPD, Greg chose to pass peacefully with his family by his side at the Concordia Hospital. He courageously refused therapy that may have briefly extended his life and gave his family time to grieve by his side. We love you Greg. Goodbye dear one. Greg was born in Minneapolis and spent his early years in several moves. He was every ounce a sports enthusiast that ultimately led to several knee operations limiting his mobility in his early 20s. A year touring Europe and the Middle East with his brother, Bill and cousin, Jill was a highlight in his life. Metaphysics was a subject of major interest and he would often expound on the philosophical purposes of life. Life was not easy for Greg yet he was always overflowing with laughter and insight. An insight of his a few weeks ago is "LOVE ALONE IS THE DRIVING FORCE THAT GIVES ALL LIFE MEANING AND PURPOSE." Greg was predeceased by his parents, Jack Paul and Madeline (nee Plews) and his stepfather, Sidney Mooney. He is survived by his brothers, Bill and Rick Mooney, their spouses, JoAnne and Krystyna, his sisters, Sharon and Joan Paul, and his nephews and nieces, Kevin, Elizabeth, Stephen, Cayla, Kieran and Alora, as well as many cousins in Winnipeg, British Columbia and California. We gratefully acknowledge the loving kindness shown and given to Greg and our family by the Intensive Care Unit of the Concordia Hospital. In respecting Greg's final wishes, no formal service will be held.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • I only met Greg once back in the 60's but I am Sid,s nephew, Marion,s son and I have been trying to establish contact again...I remember Sid from their second time together and would like to share some memories - Posted by: Larry rice (Cousin of Rick mooney) on: Oct 30, 2016

  • Greg and I dated briefly in high school (Kelvin). I was about 15 or 16 yrs. old then. I will always remember how Greg made me laugh, and how genuine and honest he was. He and I shared an ugly childhood trauma and I felt (feel) such compassion for him. We ran into each other at the St. Vital Mall years ago and I was touched again by the sparkle in his eyes, and his sincerity. I also had a dream recently, where we met again in that mall, and he basically said he was at peace, and unafraid, and he said good-bye to me. I didn't understand the dream unil now. I'm crying (again) writing this message, even though I am SURE he is in a better place. My heartfelt condolences to you, Bill, and your entire family. I loved Greg for who he was, and how he treated me. I know I will see him again in Heaven!! I'd like to send you a card, Bill, if I can get your address. ( I met you, also, when I was dating Greg). 204-832-4009, or annestarriders@shaw.ca. God Bless. - Posted by: Anne Kaiptan (nee: LeMaistre) (friend/girlfriend from teenage years) on: May 17, 2014
