VIOLET GEORGINA HITCHCOCK July 10, 1917 - February 6, 2014 Violet was predeceased by her parents George and Catherine (Lane), brother Raymond, and lifelong friends Dorothy (Farr) and William Sloane. Auntie Vi will be fondly remembered by Dorothy and Bill's children, Edwin, Esther and Louise. Violet grew up in Winnipeg's North End, and after completing business school began a 44 year career with the Provincial Government. She worked in many departments from 1938-1982, eventually as assistant to ministers including Russell Paulley and Norma Price. She continued her association with co-workers for many years in the Manitoba Association of Retired Government Employees and enjoyed many friendships and activities in the XANA Winnipeg Business and Professional Women's Club. Always of a cheerful disposition, Vi remained close to her family, and made many friends during her lifetime. She enjoyed holidays in Britain, Bermuda, Hawaii, and across Canada and the U.S. She was a frequent and welcome visitor to the Sloane farm at Clearwater, Manitoba. Violet was a resident of Arlington Haus for several years until she moved to Riverview Health Centre (CD2) in 2008 where she was briefly reunited with Neva (Burns) King, a childhood friend. During these years she was cared for with patience and kindness. The family of Dorothy and Bill Sloane would like to thank the staff at these residences. Rev. Janet Walker will conduct a Graveside Service of Remembrance on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery.
