LEO VICTOR TEILLET 1950 - 2014 Leo passed peacefully on May 9, 2014 at the age of 64. He was predeceased by his father Louis Teillet, and brother Raymond. He leaves to mourn his mother Eveline, brother Paul (Anne Marie), daughters Rachelle (Ben Hopper), Natalie (Justin Kehler), and granddaughters Callie and Claire. Leo worked as a defence lawyer in Winnipeg. He loved life to the fullest, enjoyed canoeing, camping and adventure. He was one of the first to start La Brigade De La Rivière Rouge, and volunteered his time to the Festival du Voyageur where he served a two year term as President. He worked with the D.S.F.M. to preserve French language rights for Manitobans. Leo was a direct descendant of Louis Riel whom he defended through legal channels to exonerate the long standing charges of treason. He was also on the Board of the Métis Federation. His large, extended family and friends will remember him as a charming, witty and funny man who could spin great stories and make everyone laugh. Graveside ceremony to be held at 464 Jolys Avenue West in St-Pierre Jolys, Tuesday, May 20 at 1:30 p.m. Family and friends get-together to follow at 594 Cote Street in St-Pierre Jolys.

Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • My belated condolences to the family. Leo was a lawyer to my late mother Beatrice (Champagne) Girouard. I really had no idea that he was related to me. I just found this out recently by doing my Genealogy. Leo's mother is my 2nd cousin while Leo's father is my 6th cousin 1x removed. His grandmother Lambert is my dad's first cousin while his father Louis is related to me thru the Riel/Provost/Savoie/Baril/Champagne line. - Posted by: Richard Girouard (2nd cousin 1x removed thru the Girouard/Lambert Line. ) on: Nov 03, 2020

  • Dear Leo, I will remember dancing till the wee hours in the morning, on Toronto Island with you, my friend. We laughed and danced a lot back then, this is how I remember you and always will. A Big Hug, My Sympathies To His Family And Friends. - Posted by: Louise Miazga (Friend) on: May 26, 2014

  • Eveline, Paul and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Leo loved life, laughter, family, his french heritage and his many friends. Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.- may he rest in peace. - Posted by: Kathryn Jones (friend) on: May 20, 2014

  • Aurevoir mon grand ami. You shone brightly and left the world a better place. We've been missing you for a while already... and we're still missing you today... and will continue missing you tomorrow and the day after that. Salut! - Posted by: Dennis Connelly (Ami) on: May 20, 2014

  • Having arrived from far-off places (Vancouver), Leo was my guide to all things Franco Manitoban . With passion and humour - always the humour - he opened doors and rammed home a part of Canada's history too-often overlooked. I will remember Leo as fiercely proud of his heritage and seemingly happiest when surrounded by laughing friends. That Leo was also kind and generous was just a bonus. - Posted by: Gary Hunter (Friend) on: May 20, 2014

He loved Bécaud’s “L’important c’est la rose”, and to this day, every time I hear that song I think of him. My sympathies to his family - may he rest in peace. - Posted by: Suzanne Nolette (Friend) on: May 19, 2014

  • Although I didn't spend a lot of time with him over the years, my cousin Leo always came across as a brilliant individual, full of character and wit. He had a strong sense of our heritage. I have two special memories of him. One is a canoe trip with Leo, his brother Raymond and others in the La Vérendrye wildlife reserve in Quebec long ago. The other is that Leo, though not well, took the trouble to attend, in suit and tie, the graveside service at Green Acres for my brother Richard in 2003. It's sad to learn of his passing. My condolences to his family and friends. - Posted by: Philippe Teillet (Cousin) on: May 19, 2014

  • I knew Leo through my sister Delphine, married to Raymond, since I was 16 yrs. old. He was always charming, entertaining and extremely smart. In later years I remember he and his family coming out to Twin Beaches on occasion. They were always fun and thoughtful times. Leo will be missed in so many ways and by so many people from all walks of life. - Posted by: JoAnn Ingeberg (Friend) on: May 18, 2014

  • A cousin, a friend - every year Leo and I went for dinner to celebrate our birthdays, we would laugh til we cried. I remember him tossing me in the water at Victoria Beach, teaching me to chop wood, so many great memories. Love and hugs to all the family, we will miss him. Wish I could be with you all. - Posted by: JoAnn Teillet Bloomfield (Cousin) on: May 17, 2014
