I don't know why, but I was thinking about Rick today. I was a student of his Radio Today course back in the early '90s. He showed me so much within the radio business. I remember we used to bring our baseball gloves to the class on sunny days and he would throw pitches to me. Anyways, I thought I would Google his name and see what he was doing, only to find he passed some time ago. I want to say thank you to Rick for his teaching and guidance during the radio course. Rest in peace, my friend. - Posted by: Bill Scaife () on: Mar 08, 2016

I have always admired and respected good production. Rick shared his talents with many which is now his legacy. Thank you Warren for paying tribute to Rick in your radio blog. RIP Rick. Dave Charles - Posted by: Dave Charles (1050 CHUM) on: Dec 27, 2014

Rick was a very close friend of my brother, Rick Honey, since childhood. We all loved Rick, and my parents always considered him family, and they treated him like a son. Being 5 years younger I'd always looked up to Rick as a sort of 'hero', and I had the privilege of witnessing his incredible hockey skills firsthand, as I was lucky enough to play on a couple of his 'throw together' teams at the Silver Heights Community Center from time to time. Nobody gave me a hard time on the ice with Rick's towering figure close by! By a stroke of luck, decades later I found out he lived only one town over from me ...... so we re-connected. It was magical for me, and I could see a sparkle in his eye as we reminisced about years gone by. Rick's gone ....... but never forgotten. - Posted by: Dana Honey (Friend) on: Nov 21, 2014

Rick and I were acquainted through our parents friendship. His Dad Carl and Mom Joey were best friends with my Mom Peggy Harris and my Dad, Bill Harris. When I was released by the Airforce in Gimli in 1969 I relocated to my new job in Winnipeg and Rick was looking for a place to live so he became one of our roomates at Kiltarton Towers across from Polo Park. I think we were a little too rowdy for him as he had just started his radio career at CKY and needed his sleep. I often thought of connecting with him however I guess we were on different paths and opposite sides of the country. Sad to hear about his passing. - Posted by: Jim Harris (Friend and short time roomate) on: Sep 05, 2014

I got to know Rick when I was working in the music business and would meet with him to introduce new music. He was always so passionate about great new music and good radio. We got close again when he learned of his diagnosis, as I work at a cancer centre. My condolences to family and friends. - Posted by: Kevin Shea (Friend) on: May 28, 2014

Rick was my biological father. We were estranged for many years, but I loved him, for he was my dad. - Posted by: Julie Stangl (Daughter) on: May 24, 2014
