BALDWIN MOSES KEMKARAN
Born: Aug 24, 1938
Date of Passing: May 23, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBALDWIN MOSES KEMKARAN Baldwin Moses Kemkaran went to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, May 23, 2014 at the age of 75 years. He will be missed by his children: Michael (Brianna) Kemkaran, Janet (Scott) Groen, Jeff (Jenny) Kemkaran, and Hazel Barkman (his "adopted" daughter/caregiver). His grandchildren Michaela, Jenaya and Alexandra Groen and Bradley Kemkaran will cherish the memories of Grampa K. He will also be missed by his family from the Church of God in Christ, as well as by his siblings: Sylvia (Tony), Lindbergh, Jeannette and Butch; sister-in-law Florence; brother-in-law Mellan and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his parents, three siblings: Samuel, Samson and Joyce; his brother-in-law Hamlin; his sister-in-law Lavinia and his niece Sandie. Dad was born on August 24, 1938 in San Fernando, Trinidad to Hannah and Edward Kemkaran. He was the youngest of eight children. He often talked about his childhood in Trinidad with many fond memories especially of playing soccer and cricket for Naparima College. When Dad was 18, he moved from Trinidad to join his mother and some of his siblings in London, England where he worked at the Cambridge University Press. In 1963, his brother (Samuel) brought him over to Canada and here he made his home for the next 51 years. Dad met and married our mother (Joyce) in Winnipeg in 1968 and they moved to Reston, MB to start their family and here he began his teaching career. Mr. K (as he was known to his students and enjoyed being called by many others) taught many different subjects with his favourites being math and biology. He was also a volleyball coach for many years. Dad retired from Reston Collegiate Institute after 29 years of teaching. Shortly after retiring, Dad moved back to Winnipeg to be close to his children and grandchildren. In 2009, Dad moved to Steinbach to be closer to his church family, and remained there until his passing. Dad was a quiet and gentle man. He loved the Lord and he loved his family. At the age of 40, he accepted Jesus as his Savior and Lord, and he chose to live a life following Christ. He faithfully taught his children to do the same. Dad was very involved in the churches that he attended and he used his gifts and talents to song lead, teach and preach. He was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, in Sinclair, Manitoba on September 7, 1997 by Minister Jim Elliott. He remained faithful to those vows until the end. Dad will be greatly missed, but we know he is healed and in fellowship with his Heavenly Father. We want to thank the congregation of the Church of God in Christ in Steinbach and Sinclair for being family to him. We also want to thank the staff and residents at Maplewood Manor for the extraordinary love and care that you provided him in his last 18 months. And a very special thank you to Hazel who faithfully visited, cared for and loved our Dad. We truly appreciate you all. We love you Dad and we will miss you. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Steinbach, MB, with burial to follow at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach. The viewing will be held at the church prior to the service. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27 Arrangements by: BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030

Remembering precious years at RCI this evening and thankful for the times I shared with Baldwin as a friend and new teacher at RCI. Best wishes and warmest greetings to Michael, Janet and Jeff and their families. It was a privilege to work with your Dad for eight years - I remember how much I learned from him when we worked together and how much I cherish those years at RCI. - Posted by: Michael Bertram (Friend and fellow educator) on: Dec 20, 2019

Was just speaking of Mr. Kemkaran this Christmas and mentioning how he set me up for all my later studies by teaching me to take good notes. He created a sensation at RCI when he taught how to pass a soccer ball by bouncing it with his skull. His classes were so influential that I had hoped to teach biology but my mother had nursing in mind. Mr. Kemkaran danced with me to Yellow Bird at my grad and I will never forget that. My condolences to his family. - Posted by: Joan Kendrick (former student) on: Jan 05, 2015

He was a great Biology Teacher, quiet man that deserved respect and honor. Was a great Brother in Christ when we got together to study God's words at variour homes around Sinclair Manitoba. I am glad to have known such a reserved and kind spoken man. I look forward to seeing Mr. K someday again. Sorry for the families' loss for this brief time but someday we will see him again. - Posted by: Vaughn Bender (Former Student of Reston Collegiate) on: May 27, 2014

So sorry to hear of Mr. K's passing. He was an awesome teacher, great friend, and a thoughtful instructor. With his "Zit Zin See" remark, that made the most impression of his character. We students could not make it easy for him, and we were always impressed as to what he could do with the soccer ball. Rest well, Mr. K! You earned it! - Posted by: Darren Sutcliffe () on: May 26, 2014

Mr. Kemkaren was was a sincere and kind teacher and individual. One of the most popular teachers and coaches at RCI. He was admired by all athletes. A great teacher of biology and really loved his sense of humour in classes. He will always remain as a great memory of high school, on and off the court. May his memory forever glow in your hearts. We were very saddened to hear of your Dad's passing. We had just talked about looking him up and having a visit. One should never wait when one has a good idea..... Baldwin was one of my favorite teachers. When I went to University I wanted to major in zoology and biology, mostly because of how he taught the subject (I soon found out I had neither the aptitude or tenacity to study those subjects). When we moved back to Reston in 1977 we built a relationship through our common beliefs and watched Janet, Michael and Jeff grow up in the church. He was a good friend and we enjoyed many hours together. Our sincere condolences go to all of you at this sad time. - Posted by: Rob and Carol Johnston (former student, teaching colleague and friend) on: May 26, 2014

Mr. K was an amazing teacher. His classes were among my most favourite at RCI and I learned so much from him. He was a man of great character and he was a true man of God. To his family I extend my sincere condolences. I know your hearts are hurting, but your loss is heaven's gain. Although I haven't seen Mr. K in over 30 years, I know he was not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the of God unto salvation. - Posted by: Val keen (Former student) on: May 26, 2014

The world has truly lost a GREAT man! Take comfort in your memories. I have many fond memories of Mr. K and his family. He was a fantastic teacher and an awesome coach. But I was sure glad to make varsity as a freshman because I couldn't handle another one of his freshman practices. Sorry for your loss and our deepest sympathy to your entire family.
