JEAN ROGERS 1917 - 2014 Jean Rogers passed away peacefully on May 22, 2014 surrounded by family. Jean is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Betty and Harry Pauls and Marilyn and Ed Read along with her brother and his wife, John and Pat Barton of Mt. Vernon, Washington. Jean also leaves to mourn her grandchildren, Cameron (Cindy) Pauls; Heather Pauls (Marc Smith); as well as great-grandchildren Michael and Marley Pauls; and Suzanna and Malcolm Smith. She was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Agnes Barton; her husband of 58 years, Earle Rogers; and her grandson, Michael Pauls. Jean was born in 1917, in Winnipeg, the daughter of Scottish immigrants. She grew up in Winnipeg, married Earle in 1938, and with him enjoyed many happy years. While raising her own family she obtained employment with the Hudson's Bay Co. Her job with The Bay quickly became a career and she remained with The Bay until she retired at age 65, just in time to start her second career as a volunteer with the gift shop at Seven Oaks Hospital. During the 30 plus years Jean volunteered at Seven Oaks she helped raise many thousands of dollars for worthwhile projects and equipment at the hospital. Jean's dedication as a volunteer was recognized by the hospital with a special dinner where she celebrated 25 years of volunteer service. As a lifelong member of Atlantic-Garden City United Church, Jean also dedicated her time and talents for many years to her church and treasured her many friendships within her faith community. Family was always front and centre in Jean's life and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were especially important to her. Countless family dinners and gatherings occurred in Jean's home, a place where everyone was always welcome. Jean was an amazing cook and an excellent baker; her cookies and desserts were a staple at family gatherings. With her kindness, generosity, and dedication to family and friends, Jean touched many, many lives. She will be missed. The family wishes to thank Dr. Kristjanson, Sister Jo-Ann, and all the excellent staff and volunteers at Jocelyn House for the care Jean received during her time there. A celebration of Jean's Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Jocelyn House, 177 Egerton Rd. Jean was a great lady. I worked very close to her when she was at the volunteer gift shop and I was at the information desk (before they rearranged the front entrance at the hospital). I wasn't a volunteer but worked close beside them for 22 years. I went to a birthday party Sandra Fleming put on for her in one of the volunteer homes. We always hugged when we saw each other at the gift shop, I retired 12 years ago, but still went in to see to see everybody. I missed the announcement in the paper as I would have been there. I still can't believe it...."My thoughts are with you at this time of sorrow" - Posted by: Patricia Spicer (friend from Seven Oaks Hospital) on: Jun 08, 2014

Bonnie and Sharon have many wonderful memories connected with the Rogers family at church and Sunday School. Our lives have crossed many times over the years, especially at church. Jean's volunteer work throughout her life was much appreciated. - Posted by: Sharon & Jim Fielding, Bonnie & Derek Plouffe (childhood and adult memories of Jean) on: May 27, 2014
