Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDELORES (DOLLY) GEMBEY (nee WESTERLUND) On Monday, May 26, 2014, at the Grace Hospice, Delores Gembey died at the age of 85 years. Dolly was born in Starbuck, Manitoba on June 19, 1928. Dolly was one of five girls and two boys. She is survived by her sister Dagne in Morris, Minnesota as well as numerous nephews. She was predeceased by the love of her life, Michael Gemby on November 26, 2007, her husband of 55 years. Her Icelandic heritage was a source of great pride to her. In 1949, Dolly entered the three year RN program at Winnipeg General Hospital from which she graduated in 1951. Nursing was her pride and her passion. Nursing research was a topic that was near and dear to Dolly's heart; so much so that 30 years ago Dolly and Michael established the Dolly and Michael Gembey nursing research award. She has left a legacy with her passion for the profession of nursing and patient care. This passion has been imparted on the scores of students Dolly taught, from nurses to interns to operating room technicians. Special thanks to the Grace Hospice for their wonderful care over the past seven months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dolly and Michael Gembey Nurses Research Foundation, MS 107, 820 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9. I must say that Mrs Gemby was a powerhouse of energy . She was a devoted nurse and proud to be a WGH graduate. I started my career taking the ORT course and I must say " we learned " under her tutiledge . Mrs Gemby ( who would dare call her Dolly as a student !) would often say " the RN can do this and the RN and do that " making me so determined to be a RN I did just that and graduated from the class of 75. I did call occasionally on queries on OR info when I worked in public health in the North and she was always there with the answer. I can still see her teaching our class. Mrs. Gemby will be missed by myself and I''m sure so many others . I truly looked up too her. - Posted by: Cam Robinson (ORT class of 1973) on: Jun 25, 2015

I was an operating room technician who graduated in 1982. I later learned to appreciate the amount of anatomy and physiology education that Dolly gave us. She was committed to teaching us excellent sterile techniques and processes for us to be more proficient in the OR. Walking up and down the stairs of the hospital made her so physically fit which we all still reminisce about. She trained a lot of HSC staff who then spread out to other cities and countries. That puts her legacy in prospective when you see how one's life affects so many. Thanks Mrs Gembey for my education. I value it. Rest in peace and join your live of your life Mick. - Posted by: Tammy Decelles (Student) on: May 28, 2014
