MARION E. CLARKE Marion E. Clarke was born on May 24, 1929 and passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Guelph on May 22, 2014. She was the only daughter of G. Murray and Dorothy (Strachan) Anderson of Killarney, Manitoba. Marion completed her secondary education at Riverbend School in Winnipeg then earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Manitoba and later graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Social Work. Marion met her husband Boyd in Killarney when they were teens. They reconnected years later and married in 1953. They were together for 51 years until Boyd's death in 2005. Marion practiced social work in the Family Court system in Winnipeg before relocating with Boyd as his career evolved. She was active in volunteer work leading social service committees in Guelph and in Toronto where she was a board member, then Chair, of the Visiting Homemakers Association. While in Guelph in the late 1950s Marion took up golf and became proficient enough to win the Ladies Club Championship at the Cutten Club in 1960. She also enjoyed golfing at York Downs during the Toronto years. Marion was devoted to family, supporting Boyd in his business achievements and partnering with him to give their children a wonderful start in life. She lovingly cared for both of her parents and her husband in their declining years. Marion is predeceased by her husband J. Boyd Clarke and is sadly missed by her children Nancy Clarke (Guelph), Murray Clarke and his wife Emily (Atlanta), and her extended family across Canada. A private interment will take place on Friday, May 30, 2014. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Guelph Public Library. www.wallcustance.com - 519-822-0051

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Nancy, Murray and Emily I am so sorry to hear of your Mother's passing. She was a great person. I have very fond memories of visiting your family when our visits to Killarney coincided and later on visiting with just your Mom when she was in Killarney caring for her parents who were always Auntie Dot and Uncle Murray to me. I remember my Dad (Norm) telling me that your parents were married on a Thursday afternoon so my parents could attend (Thursday afternoon being the only time the store was closed). My sincere condolences. - Posted by: Marilyn Lyons (Parents (Norm and Nell Lyons) were great friends of the Andersons) on: Jun 03, 2014
