Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT IRWIN DONALD BARTON Robert Irwin Donald Barton 73, of Lake Country, BC. Bob Barton, son of the late Robert and Marjorie Barton, passed away May 25, 2014 at Hospice House in Kelowna, BC. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Fran, sons Paul (Barb) of Thompson, MB and Casey (Erin) of Oakville, ON, and sister Joan Farnfield (Tom Gill) of Winnipeg, MB. He is also survived by grandchildren Lucas, Callum, Ty, Elise, Maya, and Kristen, nephews David (Sandra Oliver) and Matthew, and niece Sandra Young. Born and raised in Winnipeg, MB, Bob studied metallurgical technology at Ryerson, and later returned to school at UBC to attain his professional engineering degree. He joined INCO Ltd. in Thompson, MB, and helped establish the nickel mine there. A born leader, Bob quickly found success in management at work as well as outside it, serving as president of the the Thompson Rotary Club and the King Miners Junior Hockey team. Bob loved the outdoors, and spent most free time with his family at his remote cabin on Paint Lake, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, and spending time with many close friends. He loved dogs, and had one or more all his life. Later Bob and Fran moved to Indonesia where Bob assumed the role of Vice President at the P.T. Inco mine in Soroako, Sulawesi. This period began their love of travel, as they explored locations around the world. Bob was able to retire at 53, and moved to Lake Country, BC, where he began his "second career" of golfing every day, playing Oldtimers' hockey and forging new friendships. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mike Penney (family GP) and Dr. Mike Delorme (hematologist) for their excellent care during Bob's struggle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome. The family also wishes to thank Bob's golfing buddies and Fran's church family for their incredible support during this time. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be sent to the MS Society, the SPCA, or the charity of your choice. A celebration of Bob's life was held on Friday, May 30 at 2:00 p.m., at Winfield United Church, 3751 Woodsdale Rd., Lake Country, with Minister Jim Hannah officiating.
