Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAN SLAVICEK 1923 2014 With deep sadness we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather Jan Slavicek on May 26, 2014 in Calgary at the age of 90. Dad was born on July 13, 1923 in Ivancice, Czech Republic. In 1968, with his wife Libuse and three grown children, he came to Canada and settled with the whole family in Winnipeg. For the last 17 years he lived in Calgary. A very friendly and easygoing man, he acquired in both cities and many other places large circles of friends. Jan will be remembered by his daughters Liba Mahdal of Calgary and Misha Gogela (Jerry) of Winnipeg and son Jan Slavicek (Eva) of East St. Paul, MB; grandchildren: David Mahdal (Gemma), Mark Mahdal (Sherri-Lynn), Martin Gogela (Carrie), Kelly Gogela, Jan Slavicek (Lucy), Julie Kozachuk (Ian); great-grandchildren: Caleb, Emily and Jaxson; and by extended family of Vojtech and Kveta Matousek and their children Mark Matousek and Nora Duguid with their families. Also by his niece Mirka Novakova and her family in Czech Republic and many friends in both countries. According to Dad's wishes, cremation will take place and a Private Service will be held at later date in Winnipeg. Jan's final resting place will be next to his beloved Libuska. We would like to thank to all staff at Calgary's South Health Campus, Unit 78 for the exemplary care and compassion they extended not only to Dad, but also to our whole family in Dad's last days. Rest in peace Deda, now you are reunited with Babi. Thank you for adopting our family and treating us like your own. July birthdays won't be the same. We will miss your smoked fish and dancing at parties. You will always be remembered. Xoxo - Posted by: Nora Duguid (adopted grand daughter) on: Jun 08, 2014
