DAVID LORNE BRUCE With sadness we announce the passing of Lorne Bruce, born August 11, 1928 in Fort Garry (Winnipeg, MB), died November 24, 2013 at Parkside Care Home, Regina, SK. Predeceased by his wife, Gertie in February 2005, he leaves his daughter Arlene and son Neil to grieve. He also leaves one sister Joan, a brother Jim, as well as nieces and nephews. Lorne received his Ph.D in microbiology from the University of British Columbia, and did his Post-Doctoral work teaching at medical schools in Indianapolis. He became an Associate Professor at the University of Regina where he taught in the Biology Department until he retired. An avid reader, Lorne leaves a large personal library. In later years he enjoyed going for long walks with his beloved Samoyed dogs, and corresponding with friends. He always loved to sing. He met his wife, Gertie (nee Gertrude Isabel Raniseth) while directing a church choir in Calgary, and they both sang in several choirs over the years. Lorne also sang in Barbershop quartets, and participated in the bi-weekly "Sing-along with Pat" during the three months he spent at Parkside prior to his death. Ashes will be interred beside his parents' graves at the annual Poplar Park church service near Libau, MB on June 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Judith Whitmore presiding. Special thanks to Claudia Kroeker for assisting with arrangements.
