ELEANOR ALLANA STREICH (nee ZEEBRIC) Our mom and nana, Eleanor passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the age of 97 years. She was born in Winnipeg on September 9, 1916, the second of seven children. She was predeceased by her husband Edward and son Gary. She is survived by her daughters Valerie (Don Melnyk), Laurie (Stu Bauer), daughter-in-law Ollie, grandchildren Shelley, Ken, Jacqueline, Glen (Cathy), Barbara (Paul), Cameron and Spencer, great-grandchildren Isabella and Gavin, her sister Teri Aird, as well as in-laws, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Eleanor had a happy spirit and a great sense of humour. She loved to sing and dance. As a youth, she played in a mandolin orchestra. She was a talented seamstress and made many of our clothes. She was also an excellent cook and was renowned for her cinnamon buns and pickles. Her garden was her pride and joy and it produced beautiful flowers as well as plenty of fresh vegetables. She enjoyed bowling, going on bus trips and to the casino. Eleanor moved to Bethania Personal Care Home in December 2010 and with her contagious lively spirit, was active in many of the programs. Our thanks go to the staff for their care and kindness. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in early August. Further notice to follow. In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to a charity of their choice. I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one. I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways Of happy times, and laughing times, and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before too long. And cherish those very special memories to which I belong. Forever Loved- Forever Dear- Walking with Angels, Forever Near. www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715

  • I looked after Eleanor when she lived at 1590 Henderson and enjoyed going to her every morning. She always had a smile on her face so if I was having a bad morning I knew Eleanor would lift my spirits.
