MARGARET (COLLEEN) BRABANT (nee BAKER) February 7, 1927 - May 27, 2014 Peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 Colleen Brabant passed away. Colleen will be deeply missed by her children, Susan (Ron) Mamchuk of St. Adolphe, MB, Diane (Ken) Cranston of Winnipeg, Kathy (Marc) McKay of Devon, AB, Judy (Bob) Moir of Winnipeg, Greg (Chris) Brabant of Winnipeg and Glen (Wendy) Brabant of Winnipeg; grandchildren Claire, Karen (Dennis), Kevin (Amber), Meghan (Jamie), Leah (Michael), Collin (Charlene), Andrew, Allison (Drew), Michelle (Blair), Lorena, Nicole, Andrew (Whitney), and Timothy; and cherished great-grandchildren Brynna, Wyatt, Axel, Nora, Everett, Carys, Henry, Jack, Kane, Kiera. She was predeceased by her loving husband George Brabant in 2001; son Gary in 2012; and great-grandson Oliver in 2013. Mom was a committed and loving wife and mother who developed many lasting friendships raising her seven children in Windsor Park. In their later years, Mom and Pop spent winters in Weslaco and Phoenix. They had many adventures including trips to Barbados, Dominican Republic, cruising the Caribbean and driving across Canada. They built their dream home in Sandilands in 1985 where they enjoyed snowmobiling and the outdoor life, making it the family gathering place on many weekends. They moved to Alberta, and settled for a short time in Devon and Leduc before Mom returned to Winnipeg in 2001 after George (Pop) passed away. Mom's pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved spending time with her family. Whether it was long chats on the telephone, trips to the mall or a lunch out, she was always her happiest when surrounded by her family. Mom loved music, especially Canadian Country music and even met George Canyon in person at a concert in her early 80s. We all take comfort in knowing that Mom and Pop are now together. Our family would like to thank Mom's friends, especially June, at Villa Nova. Our appreciation also goes out to the Winnipeg Police and the Fire and Paramedics Service for their compassion and professionalism. Prayer vigil will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Blessed John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Avenue, with Rev. Fr. Gerald Langevin presiding. A short reception will follow. Flowers gratefully declined. If so desired, a donation can be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
