Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDITH CARSON (nee BENNETT) Peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre, after a brief battle with cancer, Edith passed away on May 26, 2014 just two weeks shy of her 86th birthday. Interment took place at Shaarey Zedek Cemetery on May 28, 2014. Pallbearers were Ralph Samphir, Charlie Samphir, Gregory Carson, Avram Sarbit, Matthew Sarbit, Marvin Samphir, Martin Zeilig and David Gurvey. Edith was predeceased by her beloved husband Benjamin, in 2001. She leaves to mourn her passing her children, Howard Carson and Bev Carson (Ralph Samphir) and her beloved grandchildren Matthew and Gregory Carson and Harrison and Charlie Samphir. She was predeceased by her parents Bessie and Teddy Bennett and her brother Gerry Bennett. Edith was born on June 8, 1928 and raised in Morse Place, Winnipeg. She grew up on the edges of farm and city and always loved both. She would experience and relish both in all her travels. After graduation from business college in 1946, Edith went on to a successful career as an executive secretary and later administrative assistant to executives at National Grain, Cargill Grain and several other companies in her later, semi-retired years. She met Benjamin in 1948 and embraced the challenge of conversion to Judaism. They married on May 5, 1950 at the height of the Great Flood. Undaunted, they built a wonderful life together as partners and parents. Edith belonged to Pioneer Women and met lifelong friends there. She guided her children through Peretz School and into adulthood and of course always typed their essays in record time. Holidays and celebrations were always at their home. She was a gracious hostess, a stylish career girl and a very cool mom and baba. Right after her graduation from business college, Edith took her first trip, solo, on the train to Vancouver Island. She was bitten by the travel bug. Throughout their life together, Ben and Edith traveled, vacationed and explored. They soaked up the sun in Hawaii and later Florida as snow birds for many years. When time became freer, there was no stopping them. From Alaska to Africa, from Patagonia to Peking, they flew, sailed, rode and drove. After losing Ben, she picked herself up and continued to explore the world. She met wonderful new friends and traveled with them. In the end, her spirit and drive for adventure and knowledge of the world is a shining example of how to live life to the fullest. Wife, mother, baba and friend, she will be terribly missed but always respected and admired by those who knew and loved her.

Edith was a great lady full of life and a great sense of humour. We loved chatting with her, especially poolside at the complex, and hearing wonderful stories of her many trips. Edith was such a positive person and some of that carried into my own life. We truly loved her and will miss her terribly. Condolenses to the family on their loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Anna and Reg Faulkes (Neighbours and friends) on: Jun 07, 2014
