PAULA ROGERS Paula passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014, at the age of 75 years, after a courageous battle with cancer at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Mom was born February 1, 1939, and lived in St. Pierre Jolys for several years before moving to St. Boniface. She married Bert Rogers December 29, 1963 at the St. Boniface Basilica. After studying floral design in Chicago, she became one of Winnipeg's top floral designers. When they moved to Edmonton in 1979, she took a break from flowers to focus on her family. Her focus remained on her family upon their return to Lockport in 1982 until she decided to return to floral design in 1993 at the Health Sciences Centre's gift shop, which she later managed and where she made many dear friends. She retired in 2011 and was able to spend more time with her adored grandchildren. Long known for her positive outlook on life, her kindness, and her beautiful smile, she was loved by everyone she knew. Paula is survived by her husband, Bert, her son Ainslie, his wife Jennifer, their children, Mia, Justin, and Ryan, who were the lights of her life, and her daughter Traci. She is also survived by her siblings, Neil, Gilles (Madeleine), Claudette (Brian), Colette (Jack) and Guy (Betty), several beloved nieces and nephews, her best friend, Elaine, who was there for her everyday through her illness, and Uncle Sid. Paula was predeceased by her parents, Hormidas and Yvonne, her brother Johnny, mother-in-law Ellen, father-in-law John, sister-in-law Elsie, and nephew Allan. Words cannot describe how much the family appreciated Dr. Julie Lamb's visits to the house before Mom went into the hospital. Her dedication and professional help to address her pain was amazing. The family would like to thank Dr. Shroeder, the nurses and aides of the Rehab Hospital (RR6) at the Health Sciences Centre for all of their care, as well as Reverend Monsignor Louis J. McCloskey and Father Owen Steeves for their blessings during her last hours. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba in her memory. A celebration of Paula's life will be held at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, 264 Donwood Dr. in North Kildonan on Wednesday, June 11, at 2:00 p.m. with a reception to follow at the church. Cremation has taken place in accordance to her wishes.

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I am so sorry for your loss....you once got lost with my brother on Lake Winnipeg at Matlock...and then we crossed paths with your son and your wife, at a shopping mall in Edmonton and myself and my family were moving to Vancouver where I still live. Having a loved one pass is hurtful, especially a wife that you have loved through all the years. I am sending heartfelt condolences and all good wishes for a healing of the heart. • Dear Bert, my late and deepest condolences to you and your family. Today I had came across reading this sad news of Paula passing, sorry for losing your dear Paula. I have many fond memories from the days I had known you, Paula, your parents Elle and John. I have always cherished the friendship with you all. I still remember Paula's unforgettable "beautiful smile" that had brought so much trust and cheer to many people. She was so kind and young at heart. I believe she had made a better world for her family, friends, friends she worked with and people she had met. She will be missed by all dearly. Ching - Posted by: Ching (A Friend) on: Dec 18, 2014

  • I really love Auntie so much and I appreciate her. It's hard to believe that she's gone now but she is in heaven now and I will see her one day. About two days after she passed away, she sent me baking that I asked her for before she died. Thank you for the baking Auntie, it was very good. And thank you for all the beanie babies you gave me over the years. I love you and will surely miss you. - Posted by: Janine (Niece) on: Jun 07, 2014

  • Again God came to visit And He did not leave alone He took with him an angel He took our Paula home To suffer so in silence Enduring so much pain With inner strength amazing Trying never to complain She fought so hard to stay with us As we watched her hurting so.... With courage strength and love for her We knew we had to let her go. And as our hearts were breaking For our loved one so in pain We watched her slowly slip away In God's hands she'd remain' Off to the gates of Heaven Is where our Paula is today Tho her smiling face is gone from here In our hearts is where she'll stay Someday we'll meet in Heaven For now we know not when, We know there is a special place Just waiting with our friend. So with tear stained eyes we gather Our broken hearts filled with pain As we say "God Be With You" Paula .....Until we meet again We love you Paula and can only hope we were able to bring as much love and joy to you as you have to all of us. Forever in our hearts <3 - Posted by: Gwen Copetti (friend) on: Jun 07, 2014
