MARGIE MCINTYRE August 5, 1944 - June 2, 2014 The only good thing about having cancer is that you have time to get your affairs in order - and even do your own obituary. I was born in 1944 at Fernie, BC and lived there until I finished high school. I married Dennis Corrigan, moved to Vancouver and had two children. Unfortunately, the marriage failed and I moved to Cranbrook, BC where I met my second husband, Terry McIntyre. We moved to his home town - Winnipeg - and had wonderful personal and professional lives there and in Calgary, AB. My entire career was in banking and I managed some small success despite being in a male-dominated profession. I became the manager of a Royal Bank branch, held the post of AMPB of both Royal Bank and Scotia Bank main branches in Winnipeg and Calgary and eventually retired from a supervisory position at Royal Direct. Retirement brought the joy of grandchildren and the challenge of creating a beautiful garden in Winnipeg. In 2007 our garden was chosen for the Winnipeg Free Press Garden Tour and, later that year, placed first in the Winnipeg in Blooms' contest for our area. Also in 2007, I was diagnosed with CLL - a chronic form of leukemia - and this changed our lives forever. There really should be a special medal for family members who are forced into the caretaker role. Without my husband Terry I would not have made it to the numerous blood tests, chemo treatments and blood transfusions. In 2009 Terry and I moved to a condo in Kelowna and I was able to reconnect with my brother Gordon Lewis and his wife Shirley - they have been heaven-sent friends during all the stages of my illness. I am survived by husband Terry McIntyre, and children Dana Thiessen and Todd Corrigan (sadly estranged), as well as grandchildren Aydan Corrigan, Kyle, Samantha and Emma Thiessen; siblings Jim, Gordon and Harold Lewis and Evelyn Kucera; Terry's siblings David, Ross and Robert McIntyre; grandson Aydan's parents (adopted members of my family) Claude and Kirstie Blanleil. I have requested no memorial services and want my ashes to be scattered at Fernie. If you would like to remember me, please make a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3 - my little Westie Webster would have appreciated your thoughtfulness.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Terry, Roberta and I were very sorry to learn of Margie's passing. Our sincere sympathies to you and your blended families on this very sad happening. We are sure Margie is in a better place and that she will be in your heart forever. - Posted by: DAVE AND ROBERTA LLOYD (FRIENDS) on: Jul 07, 2014

  • I fondly remember Margie from my early days with Royal Bank. I loved her sense of humour and her honesty. If you wanted a truthful reply whether you agreed or not, ask Margie. She called a spade a spade and I respected her for that. Throughout my tenure with RBC I knew many people and I've forgotten many of them, so much time has passed. But I've never forgotten Margie. She wrote a wonderful testament to her life. I'm very saddened by her passing. - Posted by: Jan Sherman (Colleague ) on: Jun 24, 2014
