Born: Aug 20, 1922
Date of Passing: May 04, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJEAN BUCHOLZ (nee ANTONIW/ANTHONY) 1922 - 2014 After a brief illness, our wonderful mother and grandmother, Jean Bucholz, went softly in her sleep at her daughter's residence in London, ON, May 4, to join our dad Ernie, her parents and brothers in eternal rest. Mom was born on August 20, 1922 and lived for 91 exciting years. She was the first born to Peter and Rose Antoniw and was the big sister to three brothers, Bill, John and Borden. As a child, mom was a great helper looking after the boys while her mother and father worked to raise their family during the Great Depression. Mom attended Secretarial College and worked at Armstrong Cork; even up to the end she was proud of the $9.38 retirement cheque still deposited every month. Mom would often relive the story of getting on the bus after work one day and hearing that the Second World War had ended. A smile would take over her face as she recalled the jubilant atmosphere of people shouting, whistling and hugging. Shortly after the war ended mom was roller-skating at Lloyd's when she met a private in the RCAF, Ernie Bucholz. On July 29, 1949 the two were married. In the 1960s mom and dad started Comet Builders & Decorators where mom handled the book work. She was an efficient and astute bookkeeper while still staying home and looking after three children, including twins. Recently, mom made the courageous move at 91, to London, ON to be closer to her children and grandchildren leaving her cherished neighbours Mary, Dave, Richard, Jennifer and favourite dog and "protector" Lasha Klapp. Just days before her illness mom was still going to movies, enjoying a Caesar at a restaurant, having her hair and nails done and shopping. Mom enjoyed discussing world events; she was sharp as a tack right up until her illness. Mom was an avid Bomber fan and lived for CFL Friday nights and weekends to cheer on her favourite team. In the last twenty years mom's focus was on her beautiful grandchildren of whom she was so proud. Mom leaves to mourn her three children, Sharon (Leo Assis), Sandra (Steve Cope) and Susan (Peter Lawrence) and by her four grandchildren, Gemma, Evan, Mark and Leah. Mom also leaves behind her brothers-in-law Rudy and Max Bucholz. Along with numerous nieces and nephews, mom will also be missed by niece Sheila Stacey and mom's extended family in London, ON, Lourdes, Doug, William and Valentina Assis. Friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of a wonderful woman on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul. The funeral service at 3:00 p.m. will be officiated by the Reverend Bill Corcoran of Calgary, family friend, with interment to follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to iSAND, a Non-Profit organization working with adults and children with Autism, including Evan in the Greater Toronto area. They are doing wonderful things with donations such as funding for staff, equipment, materials, and space so that they can provide integrated team care as efficiently as possible to their clients and families. To donate mail a check to: iSAND5734 Yonge Street, Suite 605, Toronto, ON M2M 4E7.

Mrs. B, as we knew Jean, is one of our greatest and and most precious memories since our arrival and life in Canada. Her precious smile and witty conversation were always a bright point in any visit we did to Leo, Sharon or any other place we would meet her. When Mr B. was still around, both of them were an island of memories and stories that all of us, but especially William, enjoyed and longed to visit again, and to stay with as long as possible. Now that they are together again, we know that our memories and prayers have another pair of angels looking down upon all of us. Valentina lost her great friend, we lost someone that embraced us as one of hers, and William a Grandmother. Mrs. B, you will always be in our prayers and memory, and from the bottom of our hearts, we miss you. - Posted by: Doug Assis and family (Extended Family) on: Jun 08, 2014
