Condolences & Memories (25 entries)

  • My sincere condolences to Diane DeGraves and her family. I had sent a card, but it was returned this week as having gone to the wrong address. I worked under Diane at H.S.C. and recall how she spoke proudly about Ruth's artistic accomplishments and how she always took time to attend and support the Fringe Festival. Diane and her family will remain in my thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Val Stanowski (Former co-worker of Diane DeGraves) on: Aug 24, 2014

  • UNIQUE! Ruth was a diminuitive repository of immense energy & intelligence. Like a comet that burns brightly yet too quickly passes from our sight, we were so fortunate to have her presence in our lives. For me, Ruth was an intimate and loyal confidante who shared many events, emotions, & secrets during the 3 decades I was so blessed to call her my "True Friend". To Everyone, she conveyed a genuine connection & sensitivity; even a certain empathy toward strangers. There will never be another Ruth De Graves; and to her parents, sons, and loved ones, I offer my Deepest Condolences. • Wilf, Diane &t he girls, I am so saddened to hear of the loss of your dear, sweet, Ruthie! I loved coming to your house to babysit your girls. I thoroughly enjoyed my times at your home. Ruth was precocious & mischievious. But she always had a very big smile on her face whether she was being very good or being very naughty! Your little spitfire was always one step ahead of me! In one instance, she was sitting with Marion at Diane's dressing table, lipstick tube in hand. The 2 cohorts had lipstick everywhere! They were supposed to be sleeping. I wished I had known Ruthie as an adult with that same grin & spirit she had as a young child. She was remarkably talented & creative! I would venture to guess that sleep wasn't a part of her vocabulary? Ruthie accomplished so much in a life tragically cut way too short! I can't imagine your grief & intense sense of loss, Wilf, Diane, Joan, Marion & Alison! My thoughts & prayers are with you all...love Lorna - Posted by: Lorna Gamboz (Distant cousin& former babysitter) on: Jul 01, 2014

  • I am shocked and saddened to hear of Ruth's passing. Although we hadn't seen each other in last several years, I have fond teenage memories of her station wagon, driving around eating ice cream, hanging out with hers friends Lynn and Anna and so much more. My kids remember eating rhubarb from the garden on Dorchester, watching Beatrix Potter movies and weekends at the lake. She was a woman with creativity, passion, humour and opinions. Rest in peace Ruthie. - Posted by: Susan Belanger (old friend) on: Jun 28, 2014
