JOSHUA TARO KUPCHUK Peacefully, on June 9, 2014, with family by his side, Joshua Taro Kupchuk moved on, to dwell in the house of our Lord. Left to mourn his passing are his parents Darwin and Rachelle, younger brother Tanner, and sister Tegan, grandparents Bert (Pake) and Jean Polet, and many extended family members including special aunt Corinne (Bruce) Giesbrecht, aunt Melinda (Josh) Polet, uncle Calvin (Jennifer) Polet, and uncle Lawrence Kupchik. Special family friends include uncle and auntie Marshall and Karen Dutka, who were an integral and much loved part of his life. He will be especially sadly missed by cousins Melina, Ethan, Graham, Charlie, Jonah, Mikaela, and Beatrix, as well as honorary cousins Lyndsay and Kelsey. Special friends include family friend Bonny, Stephan, Quintin, and Jesse. Joshua was born on December 4, 1993 in Selkirk, Manitoba, and lived there his entire life. He attended Nursery, Centennial, Daerwood, Selkirk Junior High and "The Comp" schools. His childhood was filled with many friends, soccer, skating, "Beavers", piano lessons, football, lacrosse, and most of all, swimming. He was an active, high spirited boy who loved all of these activities. He achieved his goal of becoming a life guard, and enjoyed his time spent helping others in his life guarding jobs. Joshua loved spending time with family, and travelling on vacations to Hawaii, Mexico, California, Florida, and travelling Canada. He loved to play with his brother and sister in the pool, body surf in the ocean, and never passed up an opportunity to ride a roller coaster, or visit with friends and family. Extra special times were at his grandparent's cottage in Lake of the Woods. The times there spent swimming, canoeing, and laughing were especially fun for him. Through his teen years, Joshua strived his hardest to maintain his joys, despite his growing anxieties and inner turmoil. Although often unable to meet these goals, his wish to be active and with others was always in his sights. The one special quality of Joshua that did remain his blessing throughout his short life was his desire to help others. Always worried about everyone else, Josh would do his best to ensure his loved ones were taken care of. He took joy in those he cared for as a camp counsellor, lifeguard, or even complete strangers. Every time he called home he would repeatedly ask how everyone was doing, even the family dog, his precious Teddy. He said he prayed every night for his family and friends, but never for himself. We will miss Joshua's giggle, love of laughter and people, bravery and adventurous spirit. Joshua was bold, and always found a way to get things done with a special kind of Joshua style. He constantly worried about others, and trying to figure out the right thing to do. This was his blessing, and also his curse. However, as forever a "square peg" trying to fit in a round hole, he never lost his ambition to improve and move forward. He always searched for somewhere he could belong. Unfortunately he couldn't find a way to achieve his goals. Our only comfort now is knowing that his battle to find peace, stop his racing thoughts, and finally get some sleep are now over. Joshua is finally at peace with the Lord, where he belongs. Special thanks to Liz, and staff at W.P. and Kali and staff at TOW Ranch for working so hard to free Joshua from the chains of self-medicating addiction. Thank you to the staff at Selkirk and District General Hospital and Health Sciences Centre for working so hard to save his precious life. Our hearts are forever broken. We will miss you deeply until we meet again. Rest well sweet Joshua, see you soon. A private service will be held. Bardal Funeral Home 204-774-7474 Condolences: www.bardal.ca

  • Such sad news to hear about Joshua. My condolences to the family. In elementary at Daerwood when he first came to the school he would pick on me. But eventually when everyone else picked on me Josh was right there at my back telling them to leave me be. I remember playing football - Josh would always choose me to be on his team. He was a truly a good friend and was always making everyone laugh. I remember one time he did the splits and ripped his pants and made all of us laugh. sad to know he's gone but now he's in a better place with the Lord. Rest in paradise Joshua - Posted by: cynthia harder (elementary friend) on: Jun 14, 2014
