WILLIAM BUCHANAN (BILL) SUTTON It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of William Buchanan (Bill) Sutton on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 75 years. Left to mourn Bill's memory are his beloved wife Ella; son Ian Sutton (Karen) and daughter Karen McKerracher (Kerry); granddaughter Jayda Sutton (Chris Hallford); grandsons Andrew Sutton, Michael Arbez (Tara), Justin McKerracher and Cameron McKerracher. Also missing him are his great-granddaughters Caileigh Arbez, Abbe Arbez, Bella Arbez and Quinnlyn Arbez. Bill grew up in Glasgow Scotland. At the age of 17 he left his home to immigrate to Canada. His adventurous spirit led him to northern Manitoba working for the Hudson's Bay Company. During this time Bill learned to love the people of the north, proud to have learned Cree. After three years in the north he moved on to adventures in Winnipeg. Through the early 60s, Bill worked for a number of companies including Rothman's Cigarettes, Moyer's School Supplies, Life Savers Candy and Dominion Foods. He settled into a career as a correctional officer and councilor at Headingley Correctional Institution for 25 years until his retirement in 1993. Throughout his life, Bill had a love of working with his hands. He was lovingly known to his family as a "Putterer." He loved to build furniture and his greatest pleasure was building his retirement home in Riverton, MB. A Remembrance of Bill's Life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Kildonan United Church, 187 Kilbride Street, Winnipeg. A special thank you to the staff of GH4 at the Health Sciences Centre and 3 East at Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Avenue Winnipeg MB R3E 0V9 or Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Avenue, Winnipeg MB R3L 2P4.
