Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPHILIP MATHIAS COURCHENE Waasekiizik "Shining Sky" Born: August 19, 1946 Passed: June 10, 2014 It is with great sorrow that we, the family of Philip Courchene announce his passing at the age of 67 at Pinawa Hospital. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Barry, Lisa, Ally, Celeste (Scott), Tony, Lindey, Heather, Matthew, and numerous grandchildren; siblings Marie, and Joan (Wilfred); aunt Therese; uncles Bob, George (Mary), and Ernie as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Alexander and Sarah; children Christopher and Jason, sister Florence; brother Glenn; nieces Robin and Colette; and nephew Kurt. Philip was born on August 19, 1946 in Pine Falls, MB. He was known for his bright smile and contagious laughter. Many will remember his precious gift of storytelling and how he sat contently and listened to all who came to share with him. He never turned anyone away, your day was brightened from a visit with Philip. Each time he shared a story or fun loving memory, he would finish with, "and that's a true story." Anyone who knew Philip would chuckle about his cowboy hat and boots. He never went anywhere without his best. He was a hard working person from the age of 14 who travelled all over Canada for work. Philip was a retired carpenter by trade. The family would like to thank all hospital and EMS personnel. We would also like to personally thank the staff at Pinawa Hospital and the Morris Funeral Home for all of their guidance and support. Traditional wake services will continue at the Makoons Centre in Roseau River First Nation followed by funeral services conducted by Charlie Nelson and Peter Atkinson on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 12:00 p.m.

One Saturday my sister & I went to visit Philip. We listened to him while he told his stories and we shared so much laughter and looking at pictures he would not part with. I'll miss talking to you my dear cousin, I love you. My deepest condolences to your family.
