DAISY BUTLER It is with saddened hearts that we announce that Daisy Butler passed away, surrounded by love, on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Tuxedo Villa. She is survived by her beloved daughter, Peggy, and her two beloved granddaughters, Tamara and Stacy, sister-in-law Val Taylor, niece Jamie (Brian), nephews Peter and Ron, and many nieces and nephews on her husband's side. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence, sisters, Ivy and Violet, brother Roy and her son-in-law, Vilis. Daisy worked for the Department of National Defence and was a long time member of Niakwa Country Club and St. Luke's Anglican Church. She enjoyed many summers at Victoria Beach. My Mom had chosen to write the above obituary many years ago. I would like to add that her fun-loving nature was loved by all. She was always ready for a party and often led the sing-songs. Family dinners always included one of Daisy's jokes. She was the ultimate (grand) parent and her strength and tenacity inspired us all. Thanks for the love and the laughter. We would like to thank Tuxedo Villa for the excellent care and especially Val and Ryan. Remembrance service will be held on Tuesday, June 17 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Luke's Anglican Church, 130 Nassau (corner of Stradbrook & Nassau). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Luke's Building Fund, 130 Nassau St. N., Winnipeg, MB., R3L 2H1.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Although we only met "Miss Daisy" on a couple of occasions while visiting Winnipeg, she was very friendly and charming - we never forgot meeting and visiting with her. Our deepest sympathy is with her family. - Posted by: George and Bonnie Hastings (Uncle and aunt (in-law) of Tamara) on: Jun 14, 2014

  • My Mother, Lillian, and Daisy were very close friends for nearly 70 years. Golfing buddies, bridge pals and masters of epic phone conversations, mostly laughing, that lasted 2 hours or more. Eventually I became Daisy's friend too; it started on New Years Eve 1959, the first year I got to stay up to midnight and watch the festivities on our black and white TV. Daisy was babysitting my sisters and I while my parents were out. I made it until midnight, but Daisy fell asleep on the couch. After that, she was my favourite person (and babysitter) in the world and I was honoured to call her 'Aunt Daisy' and have her as a friend for over 50 years. It is her sunny disposition and laughter that I will remember most. And the hugs. - Posted by: Bill Cummings (Friend) on: Jun 14, 2014

  • We have known Daisy since the summer of 1978. We have enjoyed many laughs together, mostly over Daisy's jokes! We also shared the odd cocktail now and then!! We will always keep memories of a smiling and loving woman. Rest in peace dear friend. Sincere condolences to Peggy and family. • As a young boy I can still remember when I heard Clarence had died. I thought it was so unfair! Clarence and my Dad both worked for the HBC Northern stores. Clarence always appeared to me to be so outgoing and cheerful. On one occasion we were all down at the Sir John Franklin rink for a little shinny. Enthusiasm seemed to be a large part of Daisy's life. Best to Peggy. - Posted by: John Ingram (Aquaintance) on: Jun 14, 2014
