OLA ASTROPE
Born: Jun 05, 1925
Date of Passing: Jun 10, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLA ASTROPE Passing time changes a mother and child, but not the bond they share. On June 10, 2014 with her family by her side, we announce the passing of our beloved, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was born June 5, 1925 in the City of Selkirk, Manitoba, daughter of William and Gudrun Aldridge. She grew up in the Interlake Region where she met and married Edward Bertrum Astrope and together they were blessed with nine children. In December 1974 she unexpectedly was widowed and then raised her family by herself; she worked over 25 years at the Pizza Place Restaurant. When Mom had time to herself, she was best found in the kitchen baking or sitting in her favourite chair strongly enjoying another book. She was an avid sports fan, especially partial to the Montreal Canadiens and the Minnesota Vikings. Mom had a strong appreciation for World Wildlife (specifically polar bears). She was predeceased by her brother, Harry in infancy, her husband in 1974, eldest daughter Ingrid in 2006 and her sister Melba in 2005. She is survived by her children Landon (Karen), Karen (Harold), Bert (Laurie), Eric (Debbie), Wayne (Angie), Lori, Brent (Shelly) and Sean (Debbie), as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. We would like to thank the staff at Concordia Hospital and Deer Lodge Centre for the kindness and care given to our mother. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Assiniboine Park - Journey to Churchill Exhibit. Our mother will be missed by everyone who met her. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 16 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler at Henderson Hwy. Of all earthly music, that which reaches the farthest into heaven, is the beating of a loving heart.

My grandpa Andres Anderson was a close friend of Ola's grandpa, Sam Goodman and my grandma Freda Guttormson and Ola's Mom, Gudrun, were very close. I remember Ola + Bert's wedding. I did not attend but babysat my cousins when Uncle Arni + Aunt Martha attended. My uncle Fred Guttormson was Bert's best man. I think Bert + Fred were both dressed in WW11 army uniforms - Posted by: gary anderson (My grandparents (Guttormsons + Andersons) were neighbours of Ola's parents + grandparents) on: Jun 20, 2014

Ola was a hard-working, determined, loving lady, who made a positive impact on anyone she came into contact with. She will always hold a special place in my heart. - Posted by: Carly (Physio at Deer Lodge) on: Jun 16, 2014

Mom as I usually called her and as most people did. I have many fond memories of her kindness, graciousness and always going out of her way to assist in any way she could. No matter how busy she was Mrs. Astrope (Mom) always made time for you. Hockey was her passion and that was the only time a Do Not Disturb sign was invisibly placed around her neck for nothing came between her and her Hockey. I spent most of my lunch hours at her house when i was growing up, and she made the best pizza ever! This was the place to be as you were guaranteed, lunch, laughter and a warm smile. Mrs. Astrope was the kindest lady I know and I am so glad that she has touched my life. She will be sadly missed but her spirit will live on in my heart and the hearts of many forever. - Posted by: Mark Bishop (Family Friend) on: Jun 16, 2014

I had a special relationship with my granddaughters great grandma. On May 2nd, 1953, my mom gave birth to me at Selkirk Hospital, two days later Ola gave birth to Bert, my granddaughters grandfather, father to my son's wife. Ola and I liked to joke that she and my mom shared a room at the hospital and Bert and I conspired to have our kids marry someday, and they did and we got a beautiful granddaughter and I got to meet her wonderful great-grandma. Life is good and God is good. I am blessed by the memory of this lovely, lovely lady. I will never forget her or her love for my son and his family. My Amma, Freda Guttormson, was a very good friend of Ola's mother, Gudrun Aldridge. My mother Asdis Anderson was a friend to Ola. So although I have never met Ola or any of your family I feel that you are "connected" to me in some way!! Sincere condolences to you all from the Guttormson and Anderson Families. I love you Grandma! We measure years with b.c. and a.d. but I will forever mark the years as w.g. (With Grandma) and p.g. (Post Grandma) because the world is not the same without you in it. When I think of the meaning of love and the perfect example of love, no other image comes to mind other then my Grandma. She is the perfect example of God's love! - Posted by: Jon Astrope (Grandson) on: Jun 14, 2014

I love you so much grandma. I loved going to your house and learning how to bake or run in the ditch and catch frogs. Christmas Eve is an event none of us will ever forget. You are the reason I am such a big Habs fan. I have learned so much from you and I promise you Brooke will know what a wonderful and loving uma she had. You will always be in my heart. - Posted by: dana (granddaughter) on: Jun 14, 2014
