DR. LLOYD MAX DOSDALL Dr. Lloyd Max Dosdall, 61, of Sherwood Park, AB passed away peacefully Thursday, June 12, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Lloyd was born on July 21, 1952 in Lestock, SK to Max Rudolf and Magdalena (nee Brockman) Dosdall. Lloyd spent his early years in Jasmin and Punnichy, SK, and completed high school at St. Peter's College in Muenster, SK before continuing his education at the University of Saskatchewan. There Lloyd earned his B.Sc. Honours, B.Ed., and M.Sc. in Entomology. In 1984, after a six year career as a high school teacher in Allan, SK, Lloyd returned to the University of Saskatchewan to earn his Ph.D. in Entomology. After completing his Doctorate in 1987, Lloyd worked for two years as a Research Associate at the Canada Biting Fly Centre, Department of Entomology, University of Manitoba. He then worked from 1989 to 1999 at the Alberta Environmental Centre/Alberta Research Council in Vegreville, AB. From there Lloyd began his career as Professor at the University of Alberta's Department of Agricultural, Food, and Nutritional Science. Lloyd developed an international reputation for his research in field crop entomology, particularly in pest management in canola. He was a beloved friend and colleague to the scientists with whom he collaborated and was a respected mentor to the many graduate students whom he continued to advise even through his illness. His contributions have left a lasting legacy to crop production and the environment, and have resulted in several prestigious awards including the 2010 Alberta Science and Technology (ASTech) Leadership Award for innovation in agricultural science, and the 2013 FarmTech Award for outstanding contributions to Alberta's cropping industry. Lloyd enjoyed nature photography, had a love of gardening, was an avid runner, and developed a strong appreciation of classical music especially enjoying the works of Mozart. He travelled extensively throughout the world. Much of this travel resulted from invitations to deliver presentations to academics, industry representatives and farmers on his crop entomology research. Countries he visited in this capacity include the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, People's Republic of China, Germany, New Zealand, Pakistan, Egypt, Switzerland, and Norway. Lloyd is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 39 years, Teresa Kay Height-Dosdall, his sisters Sheila Hitchings (Barry), Loreen Baudais (Dale), Mavis Stephenson (Anthony), and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. A funeral mass and celebration of Lloyd's life will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) at 13 Brower Drive, Sherwood Park, AB. After mass, a luncheon will be served at OLPH, followed by interment for those who wish to attend, at Glenwood Memorial Gardens, 52356- Range Road 232, Sherwood Park at 3:00 p.m. Park Place Funeral Home 1-780-417-8000

  • I just learned of Dr. Dosdall's passing. He was an uncle figure to me, and was always thoughtful, caring, and genuine. It is with great sorrow that we will not have the pleasure of his company, however, I'm sure his attendance in heaven is welcomed after his battle with cancer. Love you Lloyd, rest in peace. - Posted by: RenĂ© Gaumont (Lloyd's long time friend's son) on: Jul 03, 2014
