JOHN EIDSE John Eidse, aged 94, formerly of Riverside, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2014, at the Poseidon Centre in Winnipeg. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Susan of almost 72 years on June 21. Three daughters, Joan (Lorne) Siemens, Kathy (Don) Klassen, Rose (Jeff) Gynn, and daughter-in-law Vera Eidse. Four grandchildren Anthony (Jennifer) Siemens, Natalie Siemens, Vanessa (Neil) Townsend, Alison (Cory) Froehlich, two step-grandchildren Tamara (Rod) Powell, Brendan (Jaclyn) Klassen. Ten great-grandchildren Nathan, Kelsey, and Nicholas Siemens, Luke, Elias, and Gabriel Townsend, Claire and Sam Powell, Halia and Madden Klassen. One brother Ben, one brother-in-law Eddie, and three sisters-in-law Elma, Annie and Betty, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. John was predeceased by his only son Bryan, his parents David K. and Elizabeth, nine brothers, eight sisters and one foster sister. Dad was born August 24, 1919, the fourth oldest of 19 children which included four sets of twins. He worked on the family farm as the mechanic and helped in the fields. He also cooked meals out in the fields for the farm hands. He married the love of his life, Susan Schroeder on June 21, 1942. God blessed them with one son and three daughters. Dad had numerous hobbies and interests. He played hockey and later coached the Rosenort Regals for a number of years in which they won many trophies. He was very proud of his team. He also collected and fixed toy tractors and attended toy tractor shows. He sang in the church choir and also in a quartet. He loved photography and entered one of his photos in a contest in which he won a camera. Later in his retirement years Mom and he joined a senior slow pitch baseball team and played for two years. He also took up cooking classes and made delicious meals for mom, but his speciality was making soups. Dad and Mom also volunteered at Union Gospel Mission and were there for a number of years, Dad answering phones and Mom helping in the kitchen. They also loved travelling. (Victoria B.C., Las Vegas, California, Hawaii, and Germany to name a few). Dad really loved storytelling and playing his harmonica in the later years. The family wishes to thank the Lindenwood Manor home care workers (especially Anthony) for the excellent care of John over the last three years and in the last 2 1/2 months at Poseidon Centre we want to acknowledge the special care that our angel "Elaine" gave to our husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. The memorial service will be held June 24, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Morris Fellowship Chapel, 223 Mary Street South in Morris, Manitoba. Private family burial has taken place.
