ANNE DIANE SALATESKI December 21, 1917 - June 17, 2014 Peacefully on June 17, 2014, Anne Salateski passed away at the age of 96. She is survived by her son, Gerald; daughters, Betty (Joe) Novak, Sandra Finley (Curt), Angela Betker (Kevin); grandchildren Cory (Cheryl), Reilly (Larissa), Graham, Cole, Devin (Ericka), Danielle (Joel), Chad, Jory; great-grandchildren Tayanna and Lukas, and numerous nieces and nephews. Anne was predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, Peter, as well as all her brothers and sisters, and her dear grandchild Mandy. Anne was born in Thalberg, moving out East to work at the young age of 17. She returned to Manitoba where she married Peter in 1943. Together they moved from the farm to Winnipeg where they raised their four children. The house on Sackville was always filled with cousins, aunts and uncles and wonderful hospitality. Mom's food was surpassed by none. Her pyrogies, cinnamon buns and her dill pickles are famous! Between running a household and raising four children, Anne still found time to knit beautiful sweaters for all her grandchildren. What little spare time she had was filled with gardening and Anne did love her bingo. Of course it helped that she was always winning! We will miss her feisty spirit with love. Many thanks to the staff at Poseidon Care Centre especially the incredible staff of the second floor who cared for Mom in her final days and a special thank you to Charlene for her kindness. Prayers will be said Monday, June 23, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ignatius Parish, 255 Stafford St. with Fr. Joseph Newman, SJ. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • It is always sad when one of the great icons in our lives, our mothers, leave us. I write in general to all who knew Anne and in particular to Gerry, Betty, Sandy and Angie with whom I grew up just one block away. It seemed that the Sackville house was a second home for so many years, and I was always welcomed at the door by your Mom after those school years whenever I got back to Winnipeg and stopped at the front door. It was a pleasure to know your Mom and to have gotten to know you all - I am so sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Robert Way (Friend of the family) on: Aug 28, 2014

  • As a long time friend of Gerry and Betty, I had many opportunities to experience and savor her cooking. I still speak of her perogies and cabbage roles as the best I have ever eaten. I wish to express my condolences to the family and to say my thoughts are with them at this sad time. Old friends are never forgotten. - Posted by: Keith Johnson (Friend of the family) on: Aug 22, 2014
