JAMES MERRILL DODD February 1942 - June 2014 On June 6, 2014 James left this world to go to a better place. He faced problems without complaint, dealing with all as they arose. Jim loved his church, music, travel, his card playing group, many friends and especially his family. How he loved to tease his nephews Troy and Scott and they loved him for it. Jim will be greatly missed by his loving sister Carolyn (Greg), his nephews Troy (Kim) and Scott and great-nieces Annika and Nikki. Jim's humour and quick wit are going to be missed at family gatherings. Be at peace Jim. No service to be held at his request.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I first met Jim in Flin Flon, Manitoba, in 1966. We both worked in health care and made many friends and shared many adventures while we were there. As others have noted, Jim was a talented individual with a great sense of humour and an eclectic interest in a variety of things. He had a keen interest in sports and was an enthusiastic fan of the Flin Flon Bombers, as well as a very vocal one, while in the stands at a game. Jim fulfilled a variety of health care roles with one of them being central to the creation and building of the health care centre in Leaf Rapids. He had the gift of a beautiful voice and sang in choirs for many years. Sometimes his interests intersected with each other. While resident in Minnedosa, he managed to attend church, sing the anthem with the United Church choir there and then sneak out so he could drive to Winnipeg and catch the afternoon Blue Bomber game on a Sunday. In later years when poor health and life circumstances took their toll, Jim remained upbeat, positive and was always delighted to connect with family and friends. He and the example he set will be missed. - Posted by: Jim McLaren (Friend) on: Jun 28, 2014

  • I'm not sure if this is the same James Dodd that I worked with at the old CNR train depot on Main St., but if it is I'd just like to say a word or two about him. Jim was a supervisor, but more than that, a friend. He had a very funny personality and loved to laugh. At the time I knew him his passion was taking his wife dancing. I often thought of James Dodd over the years and now wish I had looked him up. RIP…. Jim !! - Posted by: Randy Heatherington (Fellow Worker, CNR) on: Jun 28, 2014

  • I have known Jim since we were kids - we were neighbours in Brandon. He and my brother were very good friends and I have many good memories of Jim and his sister, Carolyn. My deepest sympathies to Carolyn and her family. May God be with you at this time. - Posted by: Lorna Smith (nee Cameron_ (A friend) on: Jun 27, 2014
