LUCILLE ARMANDE HEAD
Date of Passing: Jun 25, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLUCILLE ARMANDE HEAD On June 25, 2014 Lucille's journey with Multiple Myeloma came to a peaceful end. She is survived by her loving husband Peter, after 52 years of marriage. She leaves behind her daughter Michelle (Gord) Gooding and her son Lionel (Gabrielle) Head. She has also left a legacy for her four grandchildren, Spencer, Jordyn, Tanner and Silken of whom she was so proud. Also treasuring memories of Lucille, are her siblings Marie (Renald) Courcelles, Rene (Raedean) Gendreau, Irene (Ray) Vielfaure, Julie (John) Rowan, Denis (Sandi) Gendreau, special Aunt Rita (Frank) Syposh, and too many wonderful nieces and nephews to list. Lucille was born at St. Boniface Hospital to Cecile and Albert Fiola and her early life was spent in La Broquerie and Richer. She loved to tell how she drove herself to school in winter in a one horse cutter and tied the horse a long walk from the school. She was very proud of her French Heritage and her knowledge of Canadian History. At 15, she moved to the city and began her working life. She met Peter working at Safeway stores working as a meat wrapper to his meat cutter and they married three years later. After her children were born, she excelled as a stay-at-home Mom and also fostered eight children. During that time and for the rest of her life she indulged her creative genius with cooking, painting, pottery, stone carving, knitting, crocheting, creative writing and even became a certified Graphoanalyst. When her children left home, she turned to the next phase of her life by first volunteering at the Elizabeth Fry Society, becoming a leasing agent and finally culminating in 10 years of service with Indian and Northern Affairs as librarian. Despite all those achievements nothing was more important to her than family and she poured boundless energy into teaching whomever she met about her passions and experiences. In later years, she and Peter enjoyed travel to Europe and breaks from Winnipeg winters in Victoria, BC. In the end, she faced her illness with grace and a sense of humour that has taught us all how to live our lives. She is loved and will be missed. We wish to thank friends and family for all the visits, phone calls, flowers, meals and kind words which paved this road our family has travelled with love and compassion. We are grateful to the many angels who work at CancerCare which made the hours Lucille sat in a chair there, bearable. Special thanks to Jacques (who wrapped Mom like the Madonna) and precious Shirley. Mark in Radiation, Mom talked about you for the years remaining after that part of her treatment was over. Also, Mark in pharmacy at CancerCare our Mom adored you. Thank you for the care given by tremendous staff on ward H4 at Health Sciences Centre and finally the staff at Riverview who held our hands through the end of life journey and comforted all of us with such honesty and compassion. Barbara thank you for your love, kindness, support, stories and hugs during the last days at Riverview. Through it all, our friends at Oasis Community Church have been a blessing. Lucille can now go and get her well-deserved hug from Dr. Ade who predeceased her last year. Celebration of Life will be observed at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave., on July 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, if you so wish, donations can be made to Myeloma Canada, P.O. Box 326, Kirkland, QC H9H 0A4.

It is with great sadness that I have just learned of Lucille's passing. For many years Lucille was an integral part of the Environment Unit at Indian & Northern Affairs Canada when we were located at 275 Portage Avenue. She was a very classy lady and always with a very pleasant demeanor. I am forever indebted to her in another capacity. You see, when I applied for the first Environment Officer position in the Manitoba regional office, the manager showed Lucille my written exam as she was an expert in handwriting analysis. That manager did tell me many years later that, based on what she saw in my handwriting, she recommended that I be hired for the position. Bless you Lucille for your friendship during those early years. You are missed! My deepest condolences to Peter and to all of Lucille’s family. I have fond memories of Lucille. I remember once after she moved to the city she invited me over to listen to an LP record of this new singer she liked. His name was Johnny Cash. - Posted by: Louis Boisjoli (Cousin) on: Jun 28, 2014
