MARGARET KELLAS
Born: Feb 22, 1920
Date of Passing: Jun 24, 2014
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET KELLAS 1920 - 2014 Peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 our beloved Aunty Marg passed away at the age of 94, with her niece Darryl-Lynn at her side. She was predeceased by her parents, Archie and Mary, brothers and sisters-in-law John (Marie), Archie (Shirley) and Bill (Ruth), much loved sister, Jean, and nephews Ken, Jack and Bill. Left to grieve this amazing woman's passing are her nephews and nieces Bill (Linda), Craig (Diane), Vance, Darryl-Lynn (Doug), Kerry (Dave) and Dorothy Kellas (Ken - deceased), several grand-nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to mention who will always remember her with love. Born on February 22, 1920 Margaret lived an active, independent, full life, having travelled extensively and making new and life-long friends all along the way. This was never more evident than at Christmas or her birthday where she received several cards and letters from all over the world. Often friendships made were extended to the children as well, resulting in Margaret being Aunty' to many others. Margaret had a love of fashion and a sense of style and grace, taking enormous pride in looking her very best at all times, which included a weekly trip to her favourite hair salon downtown for decades. Margaret was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 60 years, originally joining Mizpah Chapter #14 and then Queen Winnipeg Chapter #1. She will be fondly remembered by her many friends at O.E.S. Marg was employed at Acklands, where she and a large group of co-workers established friendships that would last for the rest of their lives. Margaret then worked at Dale & Co. until her retirement in 1986. An avid sports fan, Margaret watched hockey since the age of seven and was a long-time season ticket holder and supporter of the Winnipeg Jets (WHA) and the Manitoba Moose. In addition, she was a Winnipeg Blue Bomber season ticket holder for 59 years and shared this passion for football with her late sister-in-law Marie who attended the games with Margaret for over 50 years. Margaret was a devoted, trusted and much loved sister, aunt, friend and co-worker whose kindness and generosity knew no bounds. Margaret marked every occasion with a greeting card and took countless pictures over the years, often making duplicates so that we could all share in the memory of the event for years to come. Aunty Marg was a very special lady who had a terrific sense of humour and quick wit that always made us laugh. The family wishes to extend their most heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated and friendly staff at Parkview Personal Care Home whose tireless efforts ensured our beloved Aunty Marg was well cared for during her final months. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium, 1800 Day St., Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Rest in Peace, "Gorgeous". Thank you for all the beautiful memories you left us with. We love you and will miss you always and forever. Funeral Arrangements in Care of Wheeler Funeral Home, Cemetery & Crematorium 1800 Day Street 204-224-1525

Margaret Kellas was a dear friend to our family, especially to Mom. Margaret and Kay worked together at Acklands and maintained their friendship for life. Margaret would come out to the farm quite often. The house would be filled with laughter and love whenever she came. When Domain Arena opened in 1976, Margaret was out on the ice playing broomball and she became the first casualty in the new arena by falling and breaking her wrist. Elaine did the same thing in the Domain Arena many years later. We often met up with her at the Jets or Moose games and discussed some strategies to help the teams perform better. She was a loyal fan and a loyal friend. We have been blessed by her friendship and we will miss her. Our condolences to the family, Monty and Elaine Magarrell, Morden, MB - Posted by: Monty & Elaine Magarrell (Very good friend to my (Monty's) mother, Kay Magarrell) on: Jul 06, 2014

My Aunt DeEtta McLeod was along time (since childhood to old age) frend of Marg's. They would enjoy Christmas and other family occasions together, travel and see each other continually over their entire lives. Aunt DeEtta could not have a better and more loyal friend than Marg. As I was growing up I remember Marg most fondly. My sincere condolences to her family. She was a wonderful lady. - Posted by: Bob Mcleod (friend) on: Jul 06, 2014

I worked with Marg at Dale & Co. I was like her junior secretary, as we both worked for Mr. Miller. Marg was very nice to work with, very patient and kind, and lots of fun, and have since continued my relationship with her until her 89th birthday, when I mistakenly thought it was her 90th birthday and I sent a 90th birthday card to her. She called me and we had a good laugh over that. It was after that that I lost contact with her. A card was returned to me from the post office. I then knew she had moved. She was a wonderful, energetic person, as she told me once that she had attended a football game in the afternoon, only to have a hockey game that same day in the evening. And the amount of energy she put in the Eastern Star. I know she had friends everywhere, and in her prime, she never forgot my birthday, my wedding anniversary, or we would just call and chat. It was after the card was returned to me, that I knew I probably would never see or hear from her again. I always wondered where she was. I was very sorry to see her obit in the paper on Saturday but I know in my own heart that she had a wonderful life and that she was probably tired. My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you mourn the loss of your great "Aunty". - Posted by: Sharon Deveson (worked with Marg at Dale & CO.) on: Jun 29, 2014

Many tears when I heard of Auntie's passing. My Mother Audrey Orange (nee Williams) worked with her at Acklands and developed a lifelong friendship which endured until my Mom's passing. She was always included in my family's 'events' and after my Mom was gone, my sis Bev and I tried to continue that tradition on her birthday and Christmas. As a kid, I couldn't get out Margaret so it became 'Auntie Marmo' at least until I was an adult. To my two girls, Megan and Kelly, she was, for some reason, 'Auntie Marmolade' Nothing more can be said. She was an amazing, caring & generous person and we have all lost in her passing. - Posted by: Dave Orange (God Son) on: Jun 28, 2014
