DOROTHY ADA DOHERTY After a life well lived, Dorothy Ada (Wood) Doherty passed away peacefully at Golden West Centennial Lodge on June 26, 2014. Dorothy was born on July 5, 1916 at Sunnyside Farm, Kelloe, MB the eldest daughter of Frances Mary (Edmundson) and Harold Wood. She attended Buckleyville School and Birtle High School along with her many cousins. In her youth, Dorothy enjoyed sports and socializing with her family and friends. In 1943 she married Willis Russel Doherty. They farmed in Birtle Municipality then moved to Decker, MB where they operated a store and café. Dorothy's dinner rolls, cinnamon buns, pies and cookies were legendary. After selling the business in 1951, the family lived in Yorkton, SK and The Pas, MB, where Willis worked for Western Grocers and later resumed his teaching career. Dorothy was an active member of Christ Church (Anglican) in The Pas as well as The Pas Music, Choral and Drama Festival. With her flair for co-ordinated outfits, shoes and jewelry, Dorothy worked at Anne's Shoe Shop in The Pas. In 1969 they moved to Winnipeg. Dorothy worked from 1969 to 1991 in the Ladies Shoe Department at Eaton's where she made many lasting friendships. Dorothy enjoyed planning evenings for "the girls from the store" who became frequent diners at select restaurants in St. James. In Winnipeg, she volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Grace Hospital Auxiliary and was active at St. Andrew's Woodhaven Anglican Church. She enjoyed all the social opportunities and events in the Over 55 Club at 700 Setter Street where she lived for many years. She also developed a close-knit group of female friends who supported each other and had great evenings of music and visiting. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Willis in 1977 and her brother A.G. (Tim) in 2000. She is survived by her daughters Patricia Stewart (Hampton), Barbara Crockatt (Russell), and Sandra Kleban (Richard); her grandchildren Jennifer Nappo (Jim), Joanna McKay, Colin Crockatt (Pam) and Natalia Kleban; and two great-granddaughters Courtenay and Taylor Nappo. She was especially close to her nieces Joan Howes and Gwen Moon and will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Bessie Doherty residing in Creston, BC. Dorothy's family is grateful for the compassionate care that Mum received in the nine and one half years that she lived on the 5th floor of Golden West Centennial Lodge.
