SAMUEL BRUCE MAXWELL Peacefully on June 27, 2014, Bruce passed away with his children by his side. He was 91 years old. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Marguerite, his parents, Samuel and Ethel and his sister, Margaret. Bruce was our father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He is survived by his children, Susan Maxwell, Dennis (Dawn) Maxwell and Kim Rimmer. Grandchildren are Karen Kemplay (Peter Reddekopp), Kelly (Christopher Anderson), Megan Rimmer and Lee Rimmer. Great-grandchildren are Samuel and Jakob Kemplay and Calem and Kieran Anderson. Bruce was born in Carberry, SK on November 6, 1922. He served overseas during the Second World War with the Canadian Army. While overseas he met the love of his life, Marg. After the war they returned to marry and start a family. Dad always had a friendly manner and the "gift of the gab", which served him well, as he ran his own barbershop and later went on to a successful career as a salesman until retirement. Dad and Mom spent many happy times at Jessica Lake with Bill and Effie Scarfe. Together they loved to go camping, berry picking, fishing and work in their amazing garden. Upon retirement they went on many bus trips to casinos to play the "penny slots" and became "snowbirds" in the winter. Dad loved to do puzzles. He was an avid hockey and football fan and loved his Montreal Canadians and his Jolly Green Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was always visiting the Safeway folks in the morning while shopping for buys". In later years, he loved to play bingo at the Charleswood Legion with his many friends. He would watch the deer in the yard, year round. He enjoyed sitting with Ranger, the cat and his visits from Terje, the golden retriever, who came by for biscuits on his neighbourhood walks. We would like to express our special thanks to the medical and support staff on the fifth floor at the Grace General Hospital. In keeping with Dad's wishes, there will be no funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Salvation Army.
