EILEEN SARAH SCOTT (nee CARTMILL) It is with great sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our mother, Eileen Scott, on July 2, 2014. Eileen was predeceased by her devoted husband Douglas, her parents, Sarah and William Cartmill, her in-laws Frank and Lylene Scott, her sister, Ruth Jacobson and in-laws Gordon and May Scott. She leaves behind her children, Lylene (Les), Cathy (Bruce), and Grant (Roslyne). Her grandchildren Adam, Jeremy (Kyla), Jaime (Tyler), Scott and Andrew (Jennifer), as well as her great-granddaughters, Zoe, Sydney, Ava and Paytyn. She also leaves behind brothers-in-law, Frank Scott, Alan Jacobson and sister-in-law Noreen Scott. Eileen was born in Winnipeg on April 6, 1928. Mom worked as a comptometer operator at the T. Eaton Co., and the Winnipeg Flood Board during the 1950 flood. Mom's life changed one summer day in 1948 when she saw a tall, handsome young man, refereeing a basketball game. One look and she knew that he was the man for her. The feelings were mutual and the rest, as they say, is history. Mom and Dad were married in 1950 and they went on to enjoy 59 years of a "Fairy Tale Married Life". Mom's career was her family. She was a devoted wife and mother. Mom loved nothing better than raising and caring for her husband and children. She took her job very seriously, she always had our favourite lunches ready for us kids at noon and fabulous hot dinners on the table at 5:30 every evening. Mom was very skilled at sewing, as Lylene and Cathy can attest to the many look-a-like dresses we went to school and birthday parties in. Mom was very proud of her children's accomplishments. She was always there to praise our successes and hold our hands during the hard times. She was just as proud of her grandchildren as she watched them grow, achieve their goals and start their own families. Mom took great pleasure in "Showing off" pictures of her four little great-granddaughters to anyone who wanted to see them. Mom was a strong, determined woman, especially when it came to family. Perhaps, it was never more evident than her determination to attend her grandson Andrew's wedding despite her broken back and unexpected illness. Mom helped with Girl Guides, Sunday Schools and volunteered with the MTS Pioneers. Mom and Dad especially enjoyed square dancing Friday nights with long time close friends, often turning our basement into a dance hall. After raising their family in Transcona, Mom and Dad built a home in Anola where they lived next to Lylene and Les for 20 years. Mom took great pride in decorating her home and growing a lovely garden. She created a beautiful and loving environment where she enjoyed hosting family dinners, holiday events and gatherings with friends. Mom and dad traveled through England, Ireland, Scotland and Europe and our family has unlimited memories of travelling on summer vacations, pulling our trailer all over this country and the U.S., but their favourite trips were always to British Columbia to visit Grant and Roslyne. While Dad and us kids sang songs on our journeys, Mom always had a book in her hand. She was a voracious reader, having a library card since she was six years old. Mom was a kind and generous woman. She was well thought of by her friends and family. She treasured every moment with Dad and us kids and was a wonderful role model for all of us. Mom was very loved and will be dearly missed by family and friends. We Love You Mom, you are with Dad and at peace. The family wishes to thank the nurses and doctors at St. Boniface Hospital for the care and kindness to Mom during her brief illness. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Parkinson Society Canada. (In memory) (www.Parkinson.ca). The memorial service will be held on Monday, July 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715
