I worked with Vicki for a few years. I will always remember Vicki, always dressed so wonderfully, greeting everyone, every morning in the halls. She was always so professional and always smiling. Her absence is greatly missed. Her memory will live on in the staff and students whose lives she touched in a positive way. She will be missed. - Posted by: Sabrina Taylor (Work Colleague) on: Jul 09, 2014

I was a colleague of Vicki's for many years at Lord Selkirk High School both when she was a teacher there and when she was Vice-Principal. Vicki always impressed me with her common sense and the ability to bring out the best from people. She was one of the few administrators who supported her staff on the sometimes difficult task of hall duty. I remember once when I discovered two students engaged in a game of chance in a dark hallway corner. I asked them to accompany me to the office and after explaining what these lads had been engaged in, not something to be encouraged, Vicki took over and admonished them, cautioning them also that such activity was not to be encouraged. As to the proceeds, their winnings, Vicki made a Solomon-like decision and suggested that these winnings be put in the school's Christmas Hamper Fund. The lads willingly complied. Education has lost a fine person. My sympathy to her family, relatives and friends. - Posted by: Art Ammeter (Colleague) on: Jul 08, 2014

My eyes started to well-up with tears as I was reading these comments. Vicki was The Consummate Pro, but she was also as gracious as she was wise and compassionate. And pretty darned unflappable ... :) Mrs. Cielen defined "classy" ... I was lucky to have worked with her. My sincere condolences to her family and friends ... - Posted by: Ron Drysdale (Proud to have been a colleague) on: Jul 07, 2014

I had the true pleasure of working with Vicki when I was on Parent Council at Lockport School. My oldest son attended Lockport Jr. when Vicki was principal. She was such a kind and caring individual. My son also had her as his principal at the Comp. She not only positively influenced her students, but also her staff and student's parents. Words cannot express the huge loss with Vicki's passing. Rest in Peace lovely lady. - Posted by: Lidia Collins (Parent of Student) on: Jul 07, 2014

This was very saddening to hear of her passing but she did not leave without making the world a better place. She helped so many students reach their potential and believed in them when no one else did. My favourite memory of her will be seeing her on her walks on River Road with very bright neon clothes! She was a great principal of 6 years with the warmest of hearts for her students and for everyone around her. I am thankful she was my principal for the majority of my public education and will be dearly missed. - Posted by: Dani Wenger (Former student) on: Jul 06, 2014

I had the privilege of being a student in both Lockport Jr High for 3 years as well as the comp for 3 years. For the 6 years I knew her she seemed to be a very well disciplined woman. She was kind yet assertive, understanding and respected all of the staff and students. She would always listen to everything someone had to say. Definitely one of the most respected women in the educational field. Victoria Lynn Cielen you will be missed. - Posted by: Devan Robert (Student) on: Jul 06, 2014

This woman... Was my principal. I remember ... I was a smart kid. But going down the wrong path. I begged to be considered for scholarships as my family was poor. Mrs. Ceilan not only nominated me, but I am certain she convinced the panel of my potential. This was a woman dedicated to her students and education in general. I will be at the memorial. RIP to a great lady. Class of 2002 - Posted by: Jennifer Anderson (Former comp student ) on: Jul 06, 2014

I remember Mrs. Cielen as my high school principle from 2010- 2012. She was always so professionally dressed and had a smile on her face. She was kind, soft spoken and just a great person. I had the privilege of knowing Vicki while working in the Lord Selkirk School Division and with Randy in the Sunrise School Division. When the persistent efforts of educators seemed futile at times, it was the inspiration provided by the excellence of people like Vicki and Randy that made it possible to keep trying. Many students will have better lives as a result of lives well lived. I wish to express sincere condolences to all colleagues, friends and family members. - Posted by: Bill Stevens (Colleague) on: Jul 05, 2014
