WILLIAM (BILL) ANDREW BURAK It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Burak on June 29, 2014 at the age of 70. Bill is lovingly remembered by his brother Allen (May), sister Marlene Livingstone (Ian), nieces Lori Frias (Mike), Chelsea, and Brittany, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Katherine Burak. He was born and educated in the North End of Winnipeg where he continued to live until his passing. His natural aptitude for "number crunching" resulted in Bill achieving his Management Accountant certification. He worked in the insurance field at both Great West Life and Wawanesa, and later continued on to the banking industry working at Credit Union Central. For many years he was an instructor in the evening accounting program at Red River Community College. Prior to his retirement, Bill was employed with the federal government as a Band Financial Advisor. A work-related car accident impacted his health and was a turning point in his life. On a personal level, he enjoyed both the challenges and rewards of applying his financial skills in his investing strategies. Bill's life-long interest in sports developed to his involvement in community team sports as a participant, coach, referee and later in life, as the ultimate sports fan. As a 16-year old, he was especially proud to coach a 13-year old level community club football team to a city championship in 1959. His sports involvement continued through playing with the "Over The Hill Gang" in the Centennial Touch Football League. Throughout these years, many lasting friendships were formed. His fun-loving nature, unique sense of humour and story-telling entertained those around him. He loved family get-togethers often reminiscing of the "good old times". Uncle Bill cherished his time with his three nieces lovingly referring to them as his "three pussycats". He often spoke of his second cousins Mark and Paul and their hockey games he had enjoyed attending. Reluctant to grow old, he preferred spending time with "young" people in admiration of their infectious energy and enthusiasm. Many were touched by Bill's generosity. While living a rather understated lifestyle, it brought him much happiness to give to others. He was often a friend to those that had none. In keeping with Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A private interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. In remembrance of Bill's life and love of animals, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Bill, you will be missed so much. We love you!

Bill was a school mate and friend. We both worked at Great-West Life and attended RIA classes together at UofM. As I moved around the country, Bill was always a friend I could count on to be there whenever I returned to Winnipeg. I have many fond memories - driving in the parade in Lundar with the "Maid of the Mountain" seated on top of the back seat (Bill was under the impression that this would be a young lady - but in Icelandic tradition it was the most venerated woman in the community). Helping Bill move to Gimli was an adventure in itself. Always charming with the older ladies, he often was the recipiant of a snack from my mother, whether at the beginning or end of sn evening. Many more stories. Rest in Peace Bill. Vichnaya Pamiat'! - Posted by: Ted Lomatski (Friend) on: Jul 16, 2014

Allen, my deepest condolences to you and the family. Bill and I played together on the OTHG football team where we shared a lot of great memories. Bill was a fun guy and we are very sorry to hear of his passing. We are in the process of organizing a reunion for former members of the OTHG and will certainly toast Bill at the function. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. - Posted by: wade christensen (friend / team mate - OTHG) on: Jul 05, 2014
