MARJORIE LILIAN (MCARTHUR) PINNELL Died peacefully at Hospice Wellington, Guelph, ON on Monday, July 14, 2014 at the age of 98. Best friend and loving wife of Ernest Pinnell for more than 71 years. Marjorie will be dearly missed by her husband; by her three children Richard (Elizabeth), Christopher (Leigh), and Jennifer Ross; fondly remembered by her seven grandchildren Andrew, Patrick, Ian, Stephen, Christopher, James, and Malcolm and by her two great-grandchildren Malachi and Eliana. Predeceased by her four siblings: brothers Vibart, Donald, and Hugh and sister Anna. Born March 28, 1916 in Twickenham, England, daughter of Bertram James Morris and Lilian Chevallier McArthur, she was raised in Bedford and attended Bedford Girls' Modern School where she excelled in sports particularly field hockey. Trained as a children's nurse she spent several years caring for young children during the 1930s, and later joined the Women's Auxiliary Air Force during the Second World War. It was while serving in Sennen, Cornwall that she met and fell in love with her soon-to-be husband Ernest, a young Canadian with the RCAF. English to the core and stirred by her Scottish roots, part of her soul has remained British years after starting her life in Canada shortly after the war. She ensured that she kept close and loving family ties with her many English nephews and nieces, and frequently returned to England and Scotland for family visits, even as they now travel to Canada to visit her. Marjorie quickly adapted to her new life in Manitoba and northwestern Ontario. She was quick to make many long-lasting friends. She was a loving and caring aunt to her husband's Canadian nephews and nieces and their families in Belleville and elsewhere. One of her great joys was playing cards (Whist or Bridge, please) or Cribbage with family and friends either at home or as an evening out. How many of us learned the rules of these games by taking instruction from a master! Camping trips, good times at the family cottage, or a few hours of NHL hockey on TV were some other of her other pleasures. She was a faithful member of the Anglican church wherever she lived. Marjorie cared deeply for all those whose lives she touched and she will be profoundly missed. Family and friends are invited to share their memories of Marjorie at a visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday, July 17 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Church of the Holy Saviour, 33 Allen St. E., Waterloo on Friday, July 18, 2014 with the Rev. Sharla Ciupak officiating. Private interment will take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations, in lieu of flowers, to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or Hospice Wellington would be appreciated by the family and may be arranged by contacting the funeral home at www.erbgood.com or 519-745-8445.
