GERARDA DE GROOT Mrs. Gerarda de Groot was born March 21, 1913 in the Netherlands. After graduating from high school, she worked in France and Germany only to return to Holland in 1937 where she married her husband, George and in spite of challenges brought on during and after the Second World War years, they successfully raised a family of three sons and one daughter. In 1954 the family immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada where "Nana" commenced work at St. Boniface Hospital to help the family start a new life. It was also the year in which the family heard the Gospel story which awakened and satisfied a spiritual need in each of their lives to which "Nana" was faithful until her death on July 13, 2014. Gerarda was predeceased by her husband in 1983, sons George Jr. in 1987, and Louis in 2013. She is survived by son John (Jean), daughter Gerarda, grandsons Kevin (Jody), Darryl (Melissa), Glenn (Jacquelin), and Mike (Jojo), granddaughter Michelle (John), great-grandchildren Breanna, Braden, Melina, and Jenna, Bella, Tori, Sebastian, and nieces Marianne (Ken), Jose (Rudolf) and Donatha. Our special thanks go to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, Floor 6E. Mr. Kevin Cowan will conduct the service to be held July 22, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.ca 204-885-9715
