Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • It was a privilige working for Mr. Harman. I was a part-time employee during my senior high years, and continued to work there on Saturdays during my university years too. Mr Harman taught me many things during those years that prepared me for life after university. He gave me lots of responsibility and respect, plus he had a very good sense of humour at times. He worked very hard and made his staff want to work hard for him too. I remember him taking short naps on a cot in the basement, and was amazed when he allowed me to do the same when I worked 13 hour shifts on Saturdays. I remember how excited he was when the Laura Secord chocolate order arrived before Christmas. He had us boys wrapping them up in Christmas paper and moving them upstairs to stock the shelves with them. They were a big seller. His writing was hard to read, so he used symbols to tell us what to do sometimes. He would put the symbol of an Indian teepee on the message board to stand for T.P., which meant that there was a food order being prepared for staff at the Towne Pontiac car dealership on the other side of Portage Avenue. I certainly hope that he got to enjoy his well-earned retirement years. He was a great gentleman. • With deepest sympathy to Family Members. Mr. Harman was the most Honorable man I have ever worked for. He had the biggest heart and the most understanding anyone could imagine, always a smile or a pat on the shoulder made everything disappear, even if you felt your world was falling apart. Rest in Peace you will never be forgotten. - Posted by: Gail Gill (Employee) on: Jul 20, 2014
