ELISABETH BOLTRESS (nee WOHL) On July 23, 2014, a glorious summer morning, our beautiful mother, oma and friend left the world in peace and with dignity, in the loving arms of her family. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten by her family; daughters Helen (Roland) and Barbie (Trent), granddaughters Lisa (Gerry), Lori (Cori), Sydnie (Reid) and Haylie (Cam), and great-grandsons Eli and Oliver. She will also be remembered by family and friends in Canada and Germany. Born on April 16, 1923 in Yugoslavia, Mom was the second oldest of eleven children and embraced her role as the big sister. At the age of 21, she married her husband Eugen, with whom she shared 54 years. In 1954, after spending several years in Austria, they immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. Family meant everything to her, and although it broke her heart to leave them behind, she and Dad were in search of a better life. Throughout her life, she worked very hard alongside her husband at various jobs to provide for her family. In later years, she devoted herself to caring for her four granddaughters, of whom she was so proud. After she was widowed, she found a new life at Sunrise apartments where she met wonderful friends and discovered leisure activities. In 2008, she moved into Donwood Manor to simplify her life. Mom was a beautiful seamstress, wonderful cook and baker, and knew how to swing a hammer. She was a people person, and her love and acceptance of others was boundless. She always had a smile on her face, a gleam in her eye, and a cheerful encouraging word. You could always count on her for a helping hand and good food at her table. She had a wonderful sense of humor and people enjoyed being in her presence. Mom also had a soft spot and always a treat in her purse for "grand-dog" Chopper. Mom's spirit never floundered, and her faith remained strong, even when her health was failing. The family thanks the wonderful and caring staff at Donwood Manor, who were like family to her. A funeral service will be held Monday, July 28, 2014 at 10:00 am at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Donwood Manor Foundation are appreciated. CROPO FUNERAL HOME 204-586-8044

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Elisabeth - my distant cousin. She was my Oma's cousin and my favourite aunt's cousin. I've only been speaking to her on the phone for about 14 years , but this wonderful woman made me feel like close family and that I'd known her forever. She loved life and loved to talk about her glorious loved ones. I will miss her caring voice with that lovely accent that always reminded me about our families' history. Rest in peace, dear Elisabeth. - Posted by: Steve Pless () on: Jul 28, 2014

  • I first met "Mrs. Boltress"... aka Oma to all who knew and loved her, in 1981. Her daughter, Barb and I worked at the hospital together as teenagers. I remember how she welcomed me all the time into her home. I remember her saying "eat, eat... you are so skinny.... eat, C'mon, please sit down." Elisabeth was a wonderful women and I am grateful to have had her in our family for so many years. - Posted by: Rhonda Payne (Friend) on: Jul 27, 2014
