JOHN DOUGLAS LEGGE With broken hearts, we are sad to announce the sudden passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather (papa), brother, uncle, cousin and friend. John Douglas Legge, born January 20, 1954 in Toronto, Ontario, passed away suddenly in the comfort of his home on July 22, 2014. Left to cherish his memory: wife Martha, daughters Brigitte and Jennifer (Trevor), and the apple of his eye, granddaughter Emerson. He also leaves behind brother Gordon (Carol), sister Chris (John) and youngest brother Robert (Rose), brother-in-law Sam (Helen), sister-in-law Gloria (Garrie), many nieces, nephews, friends, his best bud George (Carol), and neighbours. John was predeceased by his parents Mason and Mildred Legge, sister Joanne Sarna, his father-in-law Roy Reid, mother-in-law Mary Hern, sisters-in-law Ruth Reid and Mary-Lou Reid. John loved his family and friends and was always there to lend a helping hand if needed. Among many things he loved his vintage cars / racing and especially his "pumpkin" Emerson as he so lovingly nicknamed her. A Celebration of John's Life will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., Winnipeg, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to Children's Wish Foundation, Winnipeg (www.childrenswish.ca) Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca Glen Lawn Funeral Home 204-982-7550

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • We lived down the street from John in the old neighbourhood. It was a great street where everybody knew everybody. We knew John and his family quite well. We were sad to hear the news of his passing. Our condolences to his immediate and extended family. - Posted by: The Vaccaros (Neighbors) on: Aug 02, 2014

  • I met John and Rob in my early childhood as we grew up together on Canberra Rd. I still remember the countless hours over many winters that we all played ball hockey together. Our friendship continued into adulthood but as the years moved on we saw each other less and less. I know without question that was certainly my loss. I will always remember John as a warm person, who always seemed to have a smile on his face. In reflection his kind nature and humble attitude made him a special person. I am blessed to have known him and am sincerely saddened by his sudden passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his closest friends and family. - Posted by: Eddie Younger (friend) on: Jul 29, 2014

  • We moved across the street from John and Martha 10 years ago. We never thought that they would make such an impact on our lives. They watched our family grow as we did theirs. John became a very good friend. He was always puttering around the yard and giving out freezies to the kids. He was the shark when he had the kids in the pool and they all cheered him on for a cannon ball. He will be greatly missed by our family. Martha and family are in our thoughts and our hearts at this difficult time and you will always have a special place in our hearts. - Posted by: Amber and Mike Erickson (Neighbour) on: Jul 27, 2014

  • I met John when I was in grade 7, he was so gorgeous, the heartthrob of Beliveau Junior High. We were a couple for about a week LOL and he gave me my very first kiss:) I will always remember that twinkle in his eye and his beautiful smile, always teasing. I am so sorry for your loss, it is way to soon :( GOD Bless. - Posted by: Susan Johnson ( Van Steenkiste) (Friend) on: Jul 27, 2014

  • Martha and I used to spend many days watching our children Dawn and Jennifer play together when they were young.
