Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY PARKER Dorothy Parker (nee Lord), born July 7, 1922, Nelson, Lancashire, died July 18, 2014, Calgary, Alberta. Predeceased by her parents, James Edward Lord and Ivy Lord (nee Hargreaves), and her devoted husband of 64 years, George Everet Parker. Survived by sons, James (Rena) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Gary (Birthe) of Calgary, and grandchildren, Leah and Kyle of Winnipeg. Also survived by her special English family, John (Ruth) Eccles of Ipswich, Suffolk, and Christine Briggs (nee Eccles) of Norfolk, and also, one sister-in-law, Lillian Clifton (nee Parker) of Nelson, BC, and numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy led a gentle and dignified life and as a Second World War, war bride, she immigrated to Granum, Alberta, Canada in early 1946. Her passions were many. After her family, she loved live theatre and dance, especially ballet, and in her later years she took up painting and the piano. She also excelled at netball and tennis in England. Her sense of style included a flair for colourful flowery blouses and skirts and bright lipstick. Her fabulous roast beef, Yorkshire pudding and meat-and-potato pies were scrumptious. She struggled in her latter years with dementia and we shall cherish the Mother and Nanny who can-canned on a picnic table and embraced life and work (speedy at shorthand) with verve, a healthy sense of adventure, curiosity and dedication. Special thanks to the care staff at The Beverly Centre Glenmore, especially, Wendy and Alicia, and to Dr. Peter Thornton for decades of compassionate care. A celebration of her life will take place in the Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet c/o Graciella Najenson, 380 Graham Avenue, Winnipeg, MB., R3C 4K2 (204-957-3456) or the Alzheimer Society of Calgary (201, 222-58 Avenue, S.W., Calgary, AB, T2H 2S3). Dear Jim, Rena, Gary, Birthe, Leah & Kyle I am so sorry to hear about your mother & nana. Dorothy always had a wonderful smile to greet everybody. She really did live life to her fullest and yes, really did love the red lipstick. Playing cards was also one of her pastimes spent with family and friends. Her curiosity finally won out when we took her to see the male strippers. She was a hoot to say the least. A gracious lady, never to be forgotten.
