THE REV. KEITH BOUGHTON The Rev. Keith Donald Boughton, 86, B.A., B.Th., B.D., died at St. Boniface Hospital on July 25, 2014 after a brief fight with cancer, during which he was supported by his wife, Karen, and family. He is survived by daughter Noelle Boughton, son Randall Boughton (Marianne Campa and her daughters Ashley and Sarah), grandsons Sean (Anne-Marie Richer) and Adam Boughton, sisters-in-law Iris and Helen Boughton, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Keith is predeceased by his parents, Wilfrid C. and Edith (Roe) Boughton of Arden, and siblings Evelyn (Lindsay) Poyser, Wilbur, Walter, Harold (Grace), Allison (Stanley) McFarlane, Neil, and niece Fern McFarlane. Keith was born at Arden, MB on October 19, 1927. He was schooled there before attending United College and the University of Manitoba, but Arden remained his favourite place. Keith was a permit teacher for a year at Roaring River, near Swan River, before he took Normal School in Winnipeg in 1951-1952. He met Karen Carroll from his class, who became his wife in 1953 and remained supportive throughout their almost 61 years of marriage. They had their first home at Riding Mountain, where Keith was Principal and taught grade seven to 11 while Karen taught grade one to six. They were placed at McDonald when Keith became a student minister for The United Church of Canada. He travelled to Winnipeg for three years to complete his degree in theology, then was ordained and settled in Tilston (four congregations). He then served in Minnedosa (three congregations), Boissevain, Sarnia, ON, North Kildonan and Maryland United in Winnipeg, Virden, and Norwood United in Winnipeg (10 years) before taking his first retirement. He was then ordained supply at Dugald-Anola twice, Niverville, and Bird's Hill United (eight years), and took his second, and final, retirement in 1999, after 43 years of ministry. Keith noted that while "many think a minister only works for one hour a week doing a church service, there is no end to the hours if a minister gives good pastoral care" and Keith was known for his pastoral care. Keith's hobbies were singing, playing piano, and enjoying baseball and hockey. For ten years, he worked with Interfaith Productions, doing Sundayscope television at CKY Winnipeg. During his retirement, he wrote his family and Arden history, and was involved in planning many family, Normal School, and Permit Teacher reunions. The funeral will be held at St. Mary's Road United Church, 613 St. Mary's Road, Winnipeg, at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29. Burial is at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue. Contact Clarke's Funeral Home in Gladstone for details. The family would like to thank St. Boniface Hospital's surgeons and ward 6A nurses for their excellent palliative care. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
