LILIAN IRIS DANGERFIELD It is with immeasurable sadness the family announces the passing of Lilian Iris Dangerfield on Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Iris was born in Wynyard, Saskatchewan to Gunnlauger and Gudrun Eyrikson on November 30, 1929. Raised in Winnipeg, she met and married the love of her life, Murray Keith Dangerfield in 1954. Daughter Gudrun Lori was born in 1955, followed by Carolyn Kristin in 1959. It was in that year that the Dangerfields moved to Brandon, as Keith took up the position of General Manager of Pittsburgh Paint and Glass. Several years later they chose to enter business for themselves and purchased Brandon Paint and Glass, which they owned and operated until Keith's death in 1988. Iris was a consummate role model, as she demonstrated to her daughters the tremendous skills needed to be a working mother. Her magic hands could as quickly make a gourmet meal, sew clothes for her children, balance the books, cuddle a grandchild, knit, crochet, wipe away a child's tear, golf or fish, hold the winning bridge hand, select the perfect gift, and wrap it to such perfection you hardly dared to open it. Together Iris and Keith created an environment filled with love and laughter. Repeated trips to Mexico in their own little plane, with the company of good friends resulted in many happy memories. Many of those same good friends partook in "the Gourmet Club", where four couples would take turns hosting a gastronomic adventure each month. Winters were often spent skidooing with family and friends, and many summer days centered around the pool at home. Most importantly, were the memories created at the family cottage at Clear Lake, which they purchased in 1974. Many idyllic summers were spent on the waters and beaches of Clear Lake, and the cottage was the warm and loving gathering place for our extended families. The grandchildren always knew when they picked two cups of berries, that Grams would magically turn it into a wonderful pie! Iris was predeceased by her parents, Gudrun and Gunnlauger, her sisters Avril and Jacqueline, brother Hadly (Butch), and her loving husband Keith. She leaves behind her daughters Lori (Jim Green) and Kris (Tony Marques) and their children Aran Dangerfield (James Denis), Mitchell Green, and Ryan, Jesse and Megan Marques, and great-grandchildren Finleigh and Holden Denis. Iris also leaves some special friends, so close as to be family, Grace Winters and Charlie and Erma Cox. The family would like to extend its gratitude to so many kind and giving caregivers at Fairview, B.R.H.A. and We Care. Donations in memory of Iris can be made to: CancerCare Manitoba Breast Cancer Research. Funeral arrangements pending.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • I had always admired your mom in school. She was without a doubt the most beautiful girl in high school...a typical classical Nordic beauty! She had such a quiet, unassuming manner....and such great style! My most vivid memory of her was when your father was courting her and they got on the bus (we all rode on buses then) and she looked so exquisite. She was wearing a beige(?) cape. Capes were not part of the fashion scene at the time...and I thought she was the personification of refined elegance. I never saw her after that.....but I often thought of her. - Posted by: Nell Provinciano (nee Jarema). (High School school mate.) on: Feb 09, 2015
