DALE ROBERT PHILLIPS 1954 - 2014 Dale Phillips, aged 60, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Health Sciences Centre on Friday, July 25, 2014. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Jessica (Dan) and Tara, sister Janice, brother Brian (Darlene), niece Morgan, nephews Tyler and Graeme, long standing friend, Lilliane, and many other friends. Dale was predeceased by his brother Terry, mother Thora and father Jack. His greatest passions in life were curling, time spent at his cottage enjoying the natural surroundings, travels to Scotland during which he visited as many stone circles as he could, and drives to Ontario in the fall. He was a passionate advocate of the benefits of hemp and believed in a healthy lifestyle which included vegetarianism. Dale was a creative soul, who was actively involved in Sun Country Arts & Crafts during his retirement years. He also enjoyed his regular visits to the Forks, stopping in to visit the friends he made through his fearless and consistent engaging of people he found interesting. He enjoyed reminiscing about his years growing up in Trenton, Ontario, and his years working at the Highlander in Winnipeg. He loved to tell the stories of his past, particularly those that were humorous. Dale was truly a unique individual, he thrived on passionate argument, battled conventional thought when it didn't fit, treasured his family and friends and quietly developed a spiritual side that few saw. The Phillips family extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Kildonan Medical Centre, CancerCare, GD6 and MICU at the Health Sciences Centre for all the care and compassion they showed him during his illnesses and final days. Dale's absence will leave a great void in all the lives he touched. The Phillips family will be holding a private memorial in celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. We love you, Dale, you will always be with us. Again - my condolences to the entire family. Dale was my best friend when our families lived across the street from each other on the Trenton Air Force base. We kept in touch some years afterwards until our adult lives took different paths. Having only reconnected with him online recently, I was so happy to talk to him again after so many years and so sad to hear about his passing. He was still the upbeat positive guy I knew way back when who you could yak with about anything. It was if we had picked up where we left off but only with all the years of living in between. I was just getting to know him again, but in our talks he made it clear that he believed he had really lived a good life to date with few regrets - the operative word being 'lived'. I'm happy I got the opportunity to talk with him again. I'm really sorry he's gone. Air Force brats forever! - Posted by: John Tindall (Friend) on: Aug 11, 2014

Rick and I were so saddened by Dale's passing. Dale was an original and that is what made him so interesting. I always saw Dale as kind, quick to share a few laughs with one of his humourous stories and he was a caring father to Jessica and Tara. I'm glad I got to see his cottage with Jessica and my daughter Monica, it was so Dale. We will miss you, RIP. Love Nicole and Rick. - Posted by: nicole dubois (ex-sister in law) on: Aug 09, 2014

Firstly, my condolences to Janice, Brian and Dale's two daughters. Dale, as I knew him, was an individual who liked to engage in debate (often there was an argument as to whether it was debate or argument). Our views weren't always the same, but win or lose, Dale was always a guy who would shake your hand at the end. His conviction also showed in his beliefs, being a strong supporter of some political directions, some environmental causes and neighbourhood efforts. Dale was gregarious and that was part of the charm that he could engage in conversation with any number of new people, and with a good memory, recalled old friends equally. - Godspeed, Power Engineer. - Posted by: John Wilmot (ex brother-in-law) on: Aug 02, 2014
