LIONEL LOUIS JOSEPH DION March 28, 1926 - May 16, 2014 Lionel passed away peacefully at the age of 88. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vera (Johnson) Dion, their children: Linda, Shirley (predeceased our father), Michelle (Greg), Kelly, and Nola (Bruce); along with their grandchildren: Ian, Olivia, Desni (Kurt), Aaron, Carmen, and their great-grandchildren: Memphis, Kashis, and Madix. Lionel was born in The Pas to Rose and Angus Dion. Lionel left The Pas to join the Royal Canadian Army in Winnipeg, where he also worked prior to joining the mining industry in Red Lake, ON. Red Lake is where he met and married his wife, Vera and where they raised their family. Prior to leaving Red Lake in 1969, he owned a diamond drilling contracting business which entailed a move up to Flin Flon, MB. Upon making the decision to leave mining, they bought Johnny's Confectionery, until their eventual move to Selkirk, MB. While there, they purchased the Lucky Dollar store and ran it until their retirement. Lionel, along with Vera, continued to be active members of the local Legions, golf and curling clubs. They both enjoyed dancing and travelling with friends, and gardening. UPDATED INFORMATION: A service will be held August 6, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Notre Dame Catholic Cemetery Columbarium, 6147 Hwy. 9A (across from the Rolling Mills), Selkirk.
