GERALD RENE GAY February 12, 1950 August 1, 2014 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Gérald at the young age of 64. Gérald will be greatly missed and forever remembered by his girlfriend, Kadek Sukreni, in Bali, Indonesia; siblings Marcien (Grace), Evelyne, Lorraine, Jeannette (Lindsay), Francine, Adrien (Louise) and Mario (Candice); nephews and nieces Jeffrie (Sandra), Joanne, Daniel (Aleshea), Christopher, Martin (Chandra), Vincent, Melanie (Adam), Stéphane, Jacqueline, Jeremie, Justin, Ashton and Matthew; six great-nephews and nieces as well as his extended family and numerous friends. He will be deeply missed by many close friends, especially his best friend Rick Morrison and his wife Sarin. Gérald was predeceased by his parents René and Elaine, older brother Bernard, sister-in-law Tracy and brother-in-law Richard. Gerry worked for the City of Winnipeg (Water and Waste Dept, Lab Services) for 35 years. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree (Environmental Sciences, with Honors), while working full-time for the city. Gerry was an experienced skydiver and an accomplished freefall videographer among which included for the Canadian 8-way team at the World Meet in Gap, France in 2003. He enjoyed scuba diving, hang-gliding, hiking, long-distance cycling, mountain biking and anything to do with computers, technology, gadgets, the sky or outer space. He was at one time a pilot who owned a plane. He especially loved to get together with friends and family. He was a World Vision sponsor for many years and provided for the education of several children in Bali. While we are all deeply saddened by Gerry's passing, we are grateful to have been blessed to have known him. He was genuine, extremely modest, a kind and caring soul, full of love, always willing to lend a helping hand, a free spirit; how we all loved to hear about his many adventures. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Gerry's life will be held on Saturday, August 23. Details may be obtained from any immediate family member and his close friends. We are grateful for the excellent and compassionate care provided by many including Dr. David Dawe, nurses Deb and Linda at CancerCare Manitoba, Dr. Leighl and her staff at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, Dr. Aaron Webb, Dr. Fiona Crow, Dr. Matthews and the exceptional team of nurses, physicians, health care aides and staff in Emergency and on 5E Medicine at St. Boniface Hospital. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all of Gerry's amazing friends for their contribution to ensure he had someone with him 24/7 at the hospital, specifically Candace and Brian, Rick and Sarin, Arlene, April and Ken, BJ and Cheryl, Jay and Kaneena and Doug and Ali. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160-675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. Condolences may be sent to www.desjardinsfuneralchapel.ca. Goodbye Gerry. A truly lovely man whose smile could brighten anyone's day. We were lucky enough to know Gerry for the last 5 years and could not have asked for a better neighbor and friend. Do what you can to help with the fight against cancer. - Posted by: Dale and Anita Wilson (Next door neighbour) on: Aug 06, 2014

To Gerry's dear family and friends. We did not know Gerry very well, and I (Ray) only met him a few times, but I am most grateful to have crossed his path and recognize how gentle, caring and giving he was to all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Gerry had a very special relationship with my brother Doug, who shared the passion of sky-diving and a life-long friendship with Gerry and considered him one of his most precious friends. Gerry's loss will leave a gaping hole for Doug (and Ali), and all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving this very special man. We extend our deepest condolences during this difficult time of grieving. Ray & Loraine Henault, Ottawa, ON - Posted by: Ray & Loraine Henault (Friend) on: Aug 06, 2014

I was shocked to hear how sudden this happened to someone always so full of life as Gerry. He was a kind and gentle man and I regret not having seen him in years. It was truly an honour to spend time with him, in the sky and on the ground. Goodbye my friend, blue skies. Derek Orr - Posted by: Derek Orr (Skydiving Friend) on: Aug 05, 2014

Life is - Mother Teresa Life is an opportunity, benefit from it. Life is beauty, admire it. Life is a dream, realize it. Life is a challenge, meet it. Life is a duty, complete it. Life is a game, play it. Life is a promise, fulfill it. Life is sorrow, overcome it. Life is a song, sing it. Life is a struggle, accept it. Life is a tragedy, confront it. Life is an adventure, dare it. Life is luck, make it. Life is too precious, do not destroy it. Life is life, fight for it. For me, this describes Gerry and live and celebrate the memory of this kind, thoughtful and beautiful soul with joy. Though years and circumstances separated us, memories of happier times never leave your heart, mind and soul. RIP Gerry you suffer no more. - Posted by: Linda Broesky (nee Coughlin) (school friend/past girlfriend/close school friend with sister Evelyne) on: Aug 05, 2014
