Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLOUIS ELDON MCLAREN The family regretfully announces the passing of Louis Eldon McLaren at his home in Winnipeg on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at the age of 81 years. Lou is survived by his wife June (nee Ostopowich); daughter Linda McLaren and her son Christopher McLaren; son Jeffery McLaren; son Garth McLaren and wife Florence and their children Jennifer and Matthew; son Cameron McLaren and wife Fenella and daughter Charlotte; eldest brother William MacLaren and his wife Laudia and; his only sister Florence McLaren Latter Irwin, all of St. Andrews by-the-sea N.B.; and nephew Tony McLaren. He was predeceased by his father Louis Percy McLaren; mother Lulu McLaren (nee Lambert); brother Ronald McLaren; and brother Donald McLaren and wife Freda McLaren (nee Trecarten). On February 14, 1933 Lou was born and grew up in St. Andrew-by-the-Sea, N.B. He completed his junior matriculation in 1949 at St. Andrews H.S. His first job was with the Bank of Nova Scotia in St. Andrews, Black's Harbour, St. Stephen, and then Toronto. Lou started off as a collection clerk, and then as an assistant accountant. Next, he served in the RCAF as a navigator (flying officer) Squadron #319, serving in Centralia, ON; Cold Lake, AB; North Bay, ON; Baden Solligin, W. Germany; Trenton, ON; and Winnipeg, MB. In 1960 he joined Air Canada as an accounting clerk, then group head. By 1965, he started work at Revenue Canada as an auditor and moved up to senior field audit group head and then Chief Internal Audit. Lou took early retirement at age 55, in 1988. Lou's love of golf started at the seaside links of Algonguin Hotel in his hometown of St. Andrews. He continued to play casually as long as he was able. He enjoyed volunteering over the course of his life. After his three sons were born Lou helped start the original Laura Secord Community Club, in the late 1960s. Later he served as the longtime treasurer of the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League. Once Lou was retired, he started his own tax consulting business. At the same time he spent many hours babysitting his grandkids and attending their sporting activities. Lou spent all his last 52 years living in the same home in the Wolsely neighbourhood. He loved to sit in his lawn chair, read his Free Press newspaper and puff on his cigar. Lou thoroughly enjoyed meeting and visiting with all the neighbours walking by, both young and old, two-legged and four-legged. We were saddened as we strolled by and noticed the chair with the note and flowers. He was a permanent fixture and we could always anticipate his friendly greeting, to us and our dog Jasper, as we passed by. The corner won't be the same without him. - Posted by: Ed and Diana (Wolseley neighbours) on: Aug 15, 2014

I'm one of Lou's Wolseley neighbours who walked a dog past Lou's house in the morning. My dog loved Lou, and got very excited every time she saw him. He had such a way with animals, and was a joy for humans to visit with, as well! Thank you for letting the neighbourhood know of his death. He brought warmth into many people's lives. We'll miss seeing him in his lawnchair, or pulling up in his sporty yellow car. He was a big part of what made Wolseley a community. - Posted by: Nancy (Wolseley neighbour) on: Aug 15, 2014

I have known Lou ever since I can remember. He was very good to my family. Although he was my accountant, he never failed to ask about every single member of my family and teach me life lessons. Will be greatly missed. Condolences to the family. - Posted by: Krys () on: Aug 14, 2014
