ROBERT (BOB) JOHN GAIR It is with great sadness the family of Bob Gair announces his passing on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the age of 73 years. Bob was born on April 4, 1941 and made Winnipeg his home for over six decades. Left to forever remember Bob are his loving wife of 48 years, Dorothy; children: Shannon, Shelley (Tony), and Stacey Helen; three grandsons: James, Robbie and Declan; brothers: Bill, Dave, Cameron, Alec and Gregg; sisters: Cathie and Pam; a large extended family and many great friends. He was predeceased by brothers Johnny and Brad; sister Patricia; and parents Patrick and Pearl Gair. Bob owned and operated Artistic Creations and Flag City with his brother Johnny for over 40 years, during which time he forged many lasting relationships within the business community. His personality could fill a room of its own, and his reputation as a charismatic dealmaker will be remembered by many. As a member of the Optimist Club of Assiniboia for many years, Bob served as its President from 1984-1985. During those years he made great friendships enduring to this day and received numerous awards for his service to the community. Bob enjoyed curling, golf, listening to Leonard Cohen, plotting new adventures, landscaping and travelling. He thought cruises were the perfect holiday and embarked on 17 such voyages with his wife and friends. "Bobby", as he was called by his grandsons, was a wonderful grandfather, always creating new games to play, jobs for them to do and was easy with the treats. He was much loved and will be greatly missed by the little guys. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St. John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Avenue at Rouge Road with Rev. Fr. Gerald Langevin presiding. Flowers gratefully declined. Contributions can be made to your favourite charity. Always a good mom, Dorothy and a good dad to Shannon, Stacy, and Shelley. The Buffalo barbeque was just one of the places we saw Bob volunteering. He always had a smile. - Posted by: Cliff and Joyce Durston (Friends) on: Aug 12, 2014

I first met Mr Gair nearly 37 years ago when I became best friends with his daughter Shelley. Over the next dozen years their house would become my second home and their family became my second family. I was welcomed on trips to the lake, sleepovers at their house and countless meals. Some of my favorite childhood memories were when Mr Gair was President of the Optimists club and he had us lend a hand at the annual Buffalo BBQ! I'm grateful for the time spent with all the Gairs and know it had an impact on the person I am today. Sending much love and strength to the family during this difficult time. - Posted by: Laura Taylor (Peterson) (friend of family) on: Aug 12, 2014

I first met Bob as fellow employees with Canadian Liquid Air Ltd. in Winnipeg and later we kindled a long-term friendship as 'sole-mates' when we both found ourselves in a strange environment and not many friends after being transferred to Montreal. We did not really work together there but collaborated on many projects. Later we both ended up back in Winnipeg, where our friendship grew. Bob always remained in Winnipeg and I was more of a rolling stone residing in numerous places in Western Canada over the ensuing 17 years while I moved around Bob raised his family in Winnipeg, but we always maintained contact and when I returned to Winnipeg for 4 more years in 1992 our friendship picked up where it had left off. Seven years later, when I decided to leave Canada for Panama, we became partners in a small venture that has continued until Bob's unexpected and untimely passing a few days ago. For all the time I knew Bob & Dorothy, he was always a dreamer and she was always the anchor. Dorothy, your solid footing will serve you well in this difficult time. I truly extend my deepest sympathy to you and the family Bob loved so much. May you all find strength in the many happy thoughts and memories of your life with Bob. - Posted by: Bob & Eneida Reichert (Freind and Business Associate) on: Aug 09, 2014

Beyond shock to see this in the paper and deeply saddened for Dorothy and the girls and grandchildren. I had just had a good chat with Bob a couple of months ago at Polo and he said he was feeling good. We talked about doing some work on his building and getting together someday to catch up. We should never take someday for granted. Our family wishes condolences to Dorothy, Shannon, Shelly and Stacey and their families. Please call me Dorothy if there is anything I can help with. - Posted by: Barrie and Kate Flemington (Friends) on: Aug 09, 2014

We will always cherish our memories of our times we had with Bob, those events always included laughing and joking, dreaming up ideas and living life to the fullest. His sense of humor was a gift, his laughter was a treat and his love for his family will endure. Our hearts, prayers and love go out to Dot, Shelley and her boys, Shannon and Helen. xoxo with deep sorrow and love Vicki & Greg - Posted by: Vicki & Greg (Friend and Fan of Bob) on: Aug 09, 2014

So very sorry to hear of Bob's passing. Our deepest condolences to Dorothy and family. We lived across the street from Bob and Dorothy years ago on School Road. We have very found memories of the Gair family across the street. I guess we were really meant to live across the street from a Gair family all along. After we moved from Winnipeg to Ottawa, we are now living across the street from Bob's younger brother Dave. Dorothy, our thoughts and prayers are with you. May God give you and your family the strength to get through this very difficult period. Steve and Lucyna Neville - Posted by: Steve & Lucyna Neville (Previous neighbour) on: Aug 08, 2014
