Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIA BEATRICE LETIZZIA SCARAMUZZI D'OTTAVIO January 10, 1929 - August 5, 2014 Maria Beatrice Letizzia Scaramuzzi D'Ottavio born January 10, 1929 in Aiello Crognaleto Teramo Italy. On Monday August 5, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family Maria peacefully passed away. Maria will be greatly missed by her family, son Angelo D'Ottavio; grandchildren Mario Mackenzie, Diana Marie, and Alexander Daniel; son Claudio D'Ottavio (Dina); grandchildren Amanda Dana Margerita, Daniel Claudio, and Maria Elizabeth; son Alberto D'Ottavio (Angela); grandchildren Mariella, and Matthew; brother Guiseppe (Peppino), sister Luisa Scaramuzzi and their families, along with countless family in Italy. Maria was predeceased by her loving husband of over 50 years, Amario D'Ottavio, her parents Luisa Di Carlantonio and Angelo Scaramuzzi, and daughter-in-law Rosa Felicia La Marca D'Ottavio. As a child in Italy, Maria was referred to as a princess. She was lucky to have "wealthy" American grandparents that spoiled her; she loved those days. She cultivated a fashion sense and taste for the good life that she carried throughout her days. Affectionately known as "Nonna", she was full of life until her last breath. Nonna immigrated to Canada in 1967 with her husband and three children. She quickly adapted, working tirelessly to ensure her family wanted for nothing. She worked in the hotel industry doing what we all know she did best; cooking to ensure no one left hungry. Nonna loved Sesame Street, Grand Old Opry; Price is Right (only the Bob Barker edition!), The Flintstones and lastly, the purple dinosaur Barney. These favourites contributed to her learning English which served her well! Nonna always looked forward to her trips back home to catch up with family, enjoy good food, and a little (lot of) wine here and there. Having three boys was a challenge, especially her three boys. They were always into something, but what many did not know, is when need be, Nonna was as tough as nails. Her greatest accomplishments were her boys and their families; she would swell with pride when any of them were present. She took great pride in her gardening and just to be clear, she taught Nonno how to do it right, not the other way around. Her faith was always at the forefront of her life and it is of a great comfort to her loved ones knowing she is at peace with her Lord and her family. The family would like to thank, first and foremost, Liana Bueti and Zia Elena for everything they did to support Nonna through her last months. As well as Dr. Babick for his kind words, endless home visits, and many years of care for Nonna, and nurse Ann from palliative care for all her help. Viewing to be held on Monday, August 11 2014 at 10:00 a.m., funeral to follow immediately at 11:00 a.m., and luncheon served at 12:45 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church (510 River Ave).
